Oxford Cavaliers v Raiders

Harcourt Hill Sat 18th April

Oxford Cavs off the mark

It has taken 3 matches of the Southern Conference before the Cavaliers chalked up their first win of season against Raiders of Llanelli. It was perfect conditions for this Conference match and the Cavaliers team sheet had a healthy look about it with Okeefe, Hayles and Andraide amongst a few making their Cavs season debut. It did not take long in fact 2 minuets on the clock before Cavaliers attacked the left hand side of the Raiders defence and with well timed passes and off loads released Full Back Johnny Morris to go in at the corner. Oxford continued to mount pressure on the Raiders left hand side which produced yet another try in the corner this time for young Cavaliers winger Josh Kelly who opened his scoring account for the Oxford team. It took a good 20 mins before Raiders could mount an attack on the Cavs defence but good yards up the left hand side of the Oxfords defence created the opportunity for the Raiders man of Match Alex King to score a good Dummy Half try to make the score 8 4 in Oxford’s favour. Just before half time Luke Evans scored and Louie Richards converted making it 14 4, on stroke of Half Time Raiders went in again also converted.

Half Time Cavaliers 20 Raiders 10

Raiders started the second half with an explosion and scored with the first set, try by Archie snook this was converted. Cavaliers countered again down left hand side with Half Backs Speake and Richards taking control, creating a splendid try on his Rugby League debut for ex Wasps Academy winger Isa Mohammod. Oxfords Forwards with man of match Luke Evans causing Raiders all sorts of problems in the middle of the paddock started to get a grip on a tiring Raiders defence creating another try this time for Harry Kaufman and followed quickly by a try for Graham Okeefe making the score 34 16. At this stage it looked like Cavaliers might run away with it but the welsh team never gave up and scored twice in the final 10 mins making the score very respectable.

It was good to get a win and hopefully will set Cavaliers on their way as they head to Leicester in their next Southern Conference match.

Final Score Cavaliers 36 Raiders 28
