Squad - Ollie, Harrison, Leeboy, Will M, JDL, Tom, Will R, Ronnie, Jamielee, Brody, Jedi, Declan, Elliot
After last weeks victory away at Broms, the cup draw was favourable again to United. Home against Glebe Tigers another lower division side. We had been unfortunate to lose Luis Don the week before to injury and would be plagued again after Louie D suffered a broken wrist at a soccer school. This soccer school was not affiliated to Oxted JFC and as such the matter is in the hands of our solicitors, and I can see this saga rumbling on and on.
Anyway to the game... It was obvious that Glebe had something more threatening about them, it was in the shape of a very quick and tricky forward, to compliment this was a central midfielder who "could play a bit". So United huffed and puffed our way through the 1st half but found the goalie having "one of those days" denying United an opener. We finally did grab the opening goal after JDL found himself free at the far post following Elliot's corner. 1-0. So sit back, watch the oppo fold and enjoy the goal-fest to come. Nothing could be further from the truth ! A lapse of concentration and half a yard too slow game Tigers a way back into the game, their forward turned neatly in the box and despatched smartly into the bottom left corner. 1-1.
Well this isn't in the game plan... Half Time 1-1.
After a team talk that would refocus the lads the second half looked a little more familiar. Closer down quicker, mark tighter, communicate and for goodness sake get closer to their central midfielder. Another Elliot corner found Will R in the 6yard box who headed in 2-1. Glebe's goalie who up to this point was putting in an inspired shift, but some determination from Ronnie chasing down a through ball forced the GK into an error which allowed our right midfielder to put into an unguarded net. 3-1.
This is where we could relax a little on the touchline especially after Jedi unselfishly found Declan free in the 6yard box to extend our lead 4-1. United started playing some fast 1-2 touch football as the result became more certain, Tom struck from distance, the ball looped over the goalie who really didn't deserve the score line to make it 5-1. However with over confidence come complacency Tigers sharp forward chased down a back pass and Ollie's clearance ricochets off the forward and in. 5-2. United would complete the scoring though and Jedi would get his reward for another tireless shift slotting home after a jinking run into the box. 6-2
Good result in the end even if the performance could have been crisper. Onto the next round of the cup. #COYO
