Andy Dawson's Parkgate will be looking to make a good start to their preparations for the upcoming Northern Countries East Football Division One season. The game pits the Steelmen up against nearby Football League side Rotherham United, in what will be a friendly affair between two teams that have a positive history of affiliation.
Now becoming an annual tradition for both sides, the season’s curtain raiser will take place at Roundwood on Saturday 6th July, 1:00pm kick-off. It is a game which over the few years has drawn in a good level of support from both sides. Offering a chance for both sets of fans to have their first glimpse at new signings.
The Millers adding Lagos-born striker Freddie Lapado from relegated Plymouth Argyle has given them the needed firepower up top to potentially bounce straight back into the Championship.
Although the game is nothing more than a mere fitness raising exercise for the Steelman and the Millers, both teams will be aiming to start their pre-season off with a win and positive performance to help build up a positive atmosphere within their respective camps. Though, Andy Dawson and his staff will be sure to remind his players that this game is just the start of what will be another long 10 months in which all involved will be hoping to push on from their 8th place finish last season.
