A second half comeback saw the Steelmen extend their unbeaten start to the season.

Following Bruno Holden’s injury last week and Brandon Bagley’s suspension The Steelmen recalled Luke Hodgkinson to the starting line up and brought in striker Sam Ackroyd (recently released from Sheffield United).

On a miserable day weather wise the game started with some good end to end action with The Steelmen starting the better of the two sides.

The breakthrough came on 13 minutes when good work by Ackroyd & Holland set Luke Hodgkinson away down the right wing, his cross/shot landed at the feet of Zak Khalifa who fired into the roof of the net to make it 1-0 to Parkgate.

21 minutes in and it was 1-1. A deep cross from the Selby winger fell to Liam Flanaghan who drilled a shot into the far top corner leaving Zac Walker with no chance.

The visitors went 2-1 up when a corner whipped in was met by Zeph Thomas who powered his header home. Interestingly Thomas has 20 full international caps for Saint Kitts & Nevis, a small country in the Caribbean ranked 139th in the FIFA Rankings.

HALF TIME | Parkgate 1-2 Selby Town

With the weather getting gradually worse in the second half it was Selby who grabbed the next goal. A mistake let the visitors through and it was Jon Paul Vass who made it 3-1 to the visitors.

The introduction of Jack Downes and Elliott Simpson sparked life into The Steelmen and on 68 a bullet header by Brad Kilburn made it 3-2. On 75 minutes good work down the right side by Downes allowed Ollie Yates to send over an inch perfect cross and Freddy Tracey leaped highest and headed home to make it 3-3.

The Steelmen now looked full of confidence and on 88 minutes it was yet another headed goal that finally won the game when debutant Sam Ackroyd nodded home give Parkgate a 4-3 win which sparked jubilant celebrations from a drenched home crowd and a dejected looking manager from the visitors dugout.
