Parkgate defender Matt Crookes reacts to the news of the NCEL being ‘curtailed’.

When Crookes was asked for a thought on the news announced on Wednesday by the FA and the NCEL.

“I think anyone associated with football wants it to start back up as soon as possible but also want it to be done in a safe manner too but with the planned season nearing to an end, it’s more likely it will be the same as last season.

“I hope I’m wrong because everyone will be looking forward to having football back in their lives.

“It’s a massive shame not just for the players but for everybody that’s involved with the club. We just started to get a good buzz around the ground.

“With the restrictions that had been in place it gave people a chance to come watch and support their local football side and it definitely helped us on the pitch at times. Some of the results and late comebacks we had were memorable and the fans played their part in that.”

When asked about how hard it’ll be to gain fitness and sharpness, Crookes replied;

“I would like to think it wouldn’t take that long but the best thing is to get game time and minutes under your belt, doing runs etc will maintain your fitness to a certain level but it’s matches you need.”
