Parkgate FC 0 vs Rotherham Utd 1

A fantastic night down at Rotherham Hospice Community Stadium for our annual match. Pleased to report the spectator who collapsed due to the heat is at home and recovering well.
Here's Rotherham United match report on the game.

The Millers began their pre-season preparations against training ground hosts Parkgate in what proved to be a narrow 1-0 victory.
It was a quiet opening period for both sides, but the first real chance for the Millers saw some fine play from the back end up at the feet of Denzel Hall. The full-back needed no second invitation to stride up the field before laying off to Fabio Tavares who struck with venom from just inside the Parkgate box, but a fine block saw his effort thwarted.
In sweltering conditions, the game began to settle into a rhythm soon after, with both sides aiming to utilise the ball rather than commit to lung-busting runs in the beaming sun over Rotherham Hospice Community Stadium.
It was in no way a one sided affair in the opening 15 minutes, a long ball over the Millers back line saw Ted Cann come rushing out to narrow the angle, with the Parkgate number 9 attempting a dinked finish that failed to hit the target.
Some neat, intricate play between James Clarke and Kian Spence in the middle of the park resulted in the latter getting the ball out of his feet and striking from 20 yards, but the effort lacked the power or accuracy to trouble the Parkgate shot stopper.
The pressure was beginning to pile on the hosts in the closing stages of the first-half, with wicked crosses from both Kian Spence and Marvin Kaleta somehow alluding everyone in a Millers shirt, ensuring the two sides would enter the break at a stalemate.
Half-time: Parkgate 0 - 0 Rotherham United
The Millers certainly came out the traps quickly in the second period, a clever run in behind the Parkgate backline by Fabio Tavares was almost found courtesy of a curled ball by Joe Rafferty, but the pass had just too much weight on it and agonisingly alluded Tavares.
Ted Cann was soon after forced into his first save of the evening, as a Parkgate free-kick in a dangerous area forced the Millers goalkeeper to get down low quickly and turn the strike around his right post to preserve his clean sheet.
Just moments later the ball somehow failed to cross the line, another smart Tavares run in behind the Parkgate back line was spotted, the Portuguese took on his man before cutting back to Denzel Hall who looked certain to turn home, but his effort clipped the post and trickled across the line before a Parkgate centre half somehow produced a superb, acrobatic clearance over the bar.
In the dying embers, the Millers finally took the lead. A strike on the edge of the Parkgate box was blocked, sending the effort hurling into the air, where the onrushing Alfie Ramsell went onto meet the ball with his head, with his effort looping over the keeper into the back of the net to finally break the deadlock.
Just moments later, the lead was almost doubled. Some tricky play from Harrison Duncan resulted in him delivering into the home side's box, the wicked cross was cleared but only into the path of Kane Richardson who obliged in striking first time from 25 yards out, with his effort whistling narrowly wide of the top right corner.
The final few minutes saw the Millers control the clash smartly with prolonged periods of possession.
