"THANK YOU" - SCOTT MASON

"THANK YOU" - SCOTT MASON

George Morris16 Apr 2023 - 19:45

Manager Scott Mason takes his time to give his thank you's after a stressful season.

The 2022/23 NCEL campaign seemed to have gone on forever, and Parkgate Manager Scott Mason will be the first to tell you that.

Mason was appointed in August 2022, the fourth Manager since the start of pre-season, with Andy Dawson, Ryan Hall & Liam Kay departing in very quick succesion.

Firstly, the club would like to thank Scott, his staff and players for retaining Parkgate's 40-year NCEL status - something the club are extremely proud of. As expected Scott will remain in the dugout for next season and we are looking forward to a successful season.

The Steelmen boss, "Firstly, I'd like to thank all the players who played their part during the season, whether that was big or small.
"A massive thanks to a player that doesn't get nowhere near enough credit as he deserves - Dominic Hart. He has been here since day one. He was recommended to me after moving back from the US. He's been brilliant, available every week, a player who will do anything you ask of him and now he's in his preferred position, he is showing what a good footballer he is."

Mason went on to thank the committee, "Thanks to Chairman Albert Dudill and Secretary Bruce Bickerdike for sticking with us. There were times during the season where they could have thought differently.
"They put full trust in the players and myself and we managed to build a squad to complete the main goal of survival."

"Also a big thank you to Gino (Maccio) from JBM Metal Recycling. I can't thank him enough for his support during the season.
"Even helping out in the dugout when I went on holiday, which I don't normally do during the season but it was booked whilst I was out of a job during the summer.
"I am looking forward to meeting with Gino, Albert and Bruce to chat about next season and get the lads back onto the grass and hopefully compete at the other end of the table - where most of the lads know very well!"

"As at every club, the sponsors have to be appreciated for supporting the club, whether that's financially or providing kits, team wear or equipment, so a big thank you to them!"

The club have made big steps improving the development set-up within the club over the last few years and Mason was quick to appreciate that, "Many thanks to the reserves and youth sides, and also Lee Morris for providing promising young players throughout the season who have played a huge part within the squad.
"I'm more than certain these players will have good footballing careers and hopefully that's with Parkgate."

"Thanks to Steve Adams, Andy Tomlinson and Jennifer Irvine for accessing me in the dugout and taking a lot of the stress off my back. At the start, Danny Swales and Danny Parker helped out, which I am grateful for.
I'll be looking to improve my backroom staff to ensure there's help on the training pitch and on match days every week."

"A big thanks to the volunteers who make the club tick, whether that is the ladies in the tea room, the bar staff in the club house, the media team - George (Morris) and Koby (Greenwood), or the people helping on match days.
"The ground staff who provide a great playing surface. We are lucky to have such a good surface - the best in the league in my opinion."

Mason went on to thank the supporters, "The gates at Roundwood are up by 17-18% so that's great, including some very healthy attendances towards the business end of the season.
"I'd like to thank our very loyal supporters who watched us home and away. We've even gained a group of 'Ultras'. It's good to see youngsters supporting this standard of football.
"They know they need to tone it down a little bit with some of their chants, which they did against Dronfield (Town), but we appreciate everyone's support intensely."

We asked Scott how he felt personally after a long, stressful season,"I am relieved.
"After a stressful season which went down to the wire; I felt the pressure but I said from day one, I wasn't going to have a relegation on my CV.
"I'll take some time off and then we'll be straight back to planning. I know where we need to improve as a squad, me personally and the management team.
"A good pre-season will put us in good shape for the season instead of signing masses of players during the season."

"The experienced boys have been great in the changing room, in the group chat and on the pitch. We have a lot of younger players within the squad and the more experienced lads have helped them to showcase week-in-week-out.
"Even players like Taz (Taylor Nicholson) and Brandon (Whitfield) have led by example despite being young themselves."

"Our Skipper Brad Morton and hugely influential Midfielder Danny Patterson have been as stressed as me and they've been unbelievable as expected!
"They have taken so much stress and responsibility onto their own shoulders and they are a big credit to themselves and the club."

"Finally, I'd like to thank my family. They have supported me when I've come home in a mood after a loss, especially my little baller, Luca!"
