Parkgate marked a good performance with a 2-0 victory over a competitive Retford United. After some high pressing from Retford, keeper Butt was pressured in to a mistake but luckily the ball bounced over the bar to prevent an early setback for Andy Dawson’s men.
Retford United made the Parkgate players work hard for their chances throughout the game and it wasn’t until the 31st minute until Parkgate made a real chance for themselves when Thornton headed wide. Shortly after Alex Rippon was slipped through one on one with Retford keeper and calmly placed the ball in to the net to make it 1-0.
HALF-TIME | Parkgate FC 1-0 Retford United
The half-time interval meant it was time for the usual mass of substitutes we see in in preseason games. Bruno Holden, one of the half-time substitutes, created two chances for himself within the first 10 minutes of the half. Holden’s efforts would finally pay off when he grabbed Parkgate’s second goal in the 56th minute after he picked up the seconds after Bagley pulled the ball back.
Retford continued to press Parkgate throughout the game and at time the game threatened to boil over as tempers raised from a few players from both teams. Valladolid-Collins has the ball in the net in the 89th minute for Parkgate but the referee, who had the tough task of referring without any linesmen, blew for offside.
