The Steelmen’s form continued with a Bank Holiday away win at Armthorpe Welfare FC in a game where Parkgate FC dominated the play from start to finish with a goal in each half to take all three points, to remain in second position.
A flick on from the head of Chris Wood to Nathan Forbes-Swindells on four minutes gave Parkgate their first opportunity but the prolific Parkgate strike fired the ball just wide of the upright.
Parkgate had one of only two scares when on eight minutes Brian Cusworth slipped and allowed Joe Lumsden to break through but a timely tackle by Ryan Johnson was enough to deny the Welfare striker a shot at goal.
A free kick from inside the Gate half taken by the goal keeper found Nathan Forbes-Swindells on the edge of the area his long volley could only be parried by William Biggs in the Armthorpe goal into the path of Keir Hannity. Hannity had the ball in the net but the referee’s assistant adjudged him to be of side.
Keir Hannity had the ball in the net again on twenty minutes but again had the agony of being adjudged off side.
Luke Fletcher for Parkgate came close on twenty nine minutes before Parkgate got the break through in the thirty first Chris Wood latched onto a long pass and put the ball away from close range on the second attempt when William Biggs failed to hold his first shot.
It was Armthorpe who finished the first period with a chance two minutes before the break. A mistake by the gate defence saw Callum Smith intercept a pass and manage to get his cross in to the back post where Callum Green headed inches wide.

The second period was much the same as the first but with out the odd chances the host were given in the first. Parkgate had ninety five percent of the play.
With fifty three minutes gone Brian Cusworth came close at the back post from a Daniel Patterson cross and from a corner on the left in the fifty ninth minute Chris Wood headed home at the near post to make it two nil.
Armthorpe FC offered little and Parkgate had more chances when Luke Fletcher made a good run down the right cut inside passed to Keir Hannity who forced a good save from William Biggs diving to his right and pushing it around the foot of the up right.
William Biggs made another save from a deflected Aaron Worsfold shot on seventy seven as the game drifted away from the home side. They did however have one attempt on goal from a long range effort by Berivan Khaled but it was no trouble for Ben Scott.
