This Saturday, Parkgate host Shirebrook Town at Roundwood after no game in two weeks. The last time Parkgate played was the 23rd of February against Skegness Town where Parkgate run out 5-0 winners.
Parkgate's victory against Skegness saw us close the gap on the top 8 and look to make their games in hand count. However, today is a full fixture list for all teams in the NCEL Division One so Parkgate need a win today to keep the pressure on.
Parkgate go into the game on the back of a 5-0 home win against Skegness Town. The Steelmen welcome their opponents after beating them 1-2 at away from home back in October, which was Andy Dawson and his management staff’s second game in charge, seeing them gain their first win as bosses at Parkgate. Dawson stated “The reverse fixture against Shirebrook was just my second game in charge and my first win as manager of Parkgate so this will always be a game I will remember.”
He also added “We are aware that Shirebrook have had some mixed results lately but we will prepare the lads for a tough fixture but hopefully we can continue the push for the top 8 positions.”
Saturday's opposition, Shirebrook Town, currently sit 13th in the league but have only won once since the turn of the year, with notable games being the 7-0 loss at Selby Town but beating Selby a few weeks later at home. They have also had tight games against league high-flyers Hallam and Nostell Miners Welfare. It is clear that Shirebrook are a better team at home if you look at recent results and Parkgate will look to take advantage of this at the weekend.
Regular left-back’ Freddie Russell still misses out due to injury and Sammy Ompreon’s work experience from Sheffield United has now finished. Silas Collins makes the squad for the first time who has progressed through the U18’s following some impressive training sessions and Zak Khalifa is closing in on a return to match fitness also but today’s game may have come just too soon for Zak to return.
