Brief Team History

The ladies team originally played in the South-East London & Kent League who run three competitions the Selkent League, the Selkent Challenge Cup and the Selkent Shield.

The team formed in 2002, after borrowing a kit from the London FA and all parents chipping in £10 for balls etc.
We started out as a mini-soccer team Phoenix Sports and were founder members of the girls section of the Selkent League.

The team changed its name to Marathon Red at the start of the 2003 season and played their home games and trained at the Marathon Ground, Shooters Hill, Greenwich.

In June 2005 we moved to Bexley Park and Parkwood Rangers FC to start playing 11-a-side football, as the Marathon Ground has no 11-a-side facilities. The team is now based in Kent, around the Dartford/Bexley area.

The team was awarded a Sports Endeavour Award at the Bexley Boroughs Young Sports Persons Sports Awards in 2007. Six members of the team represented the squad and were presented the award by Sporting Champion Julie Fletcher(ex England Ladies).

In 2007 the team won the Selkent League Championship,and moved up into the Kent Ladies & Girls League for the 2007/8 season. The team completed the double by winning the Selkent Shield.

The players had a suprise visit from Hope Powell, the England Ladies Manager, who presented the Players' Player and Manager's Player at our annual presentation night.

In 2008 the team was awarded the Sports Endeavour Award for the second time,This time they were presented the Award by Olympic Canoeist Ian Wynne.

In the 2007/8 season, the squad played county wide football for the first time,playing in K.G.& L.L Division 2 and secured promotion to Division 1 for season 2008/9. The team also played in the South East England Trophy and reached the final losing 0-1 on the day.

In 2008/2009 Season the team played thier first season of "top Flight" football and finshed mid table,and reached the final of the Kent League Cup for the first time in their History.

The team also picked up their 3rd Sports Endeavour Award from Bexley Council. Representives of the team attended the award night and were presented their medals by Olympic Swimmer Adam Whitehead and Olympic Sprinter Mark Richardson.

In 2009/10 The team was split into two, due to the colapse of under 17's League, The under 16's dropped back to their own age group, whilst the over 16's were offered a places in teams from the South -East Counties Womens League ( Step 6 Pyramid Football). but at the last minute were unable to field a side so the application was closed.

We were awarded Community Charter Status in November 2009 and recieved The Womens Standard Charter Club of the Year from the London Football Association in the same year.

For 2010/11 season we applied for County Football (Step 6) status to play in the South-east Counties Women's League and were accepted into this league. We won the League at the first attempt and also secured the league double by winning our divisional cup, thus gaining us promotion to Division One from the Kent Division. and securing our status as part of the National League Pyramid structure.

Promotion to Division One in 2011 also meant that we have met the qualifying critiria to play in the 2011/12 Womens FA Cup both on and off the pitch. On October 2nd 2011 we played our first ever FA Cup Match at Home vs Rusthall FC from Tonbridge Wells losing on penalties after a 3-3 entertaining match.

Our first season in division one saw us end up 6th and retain our NLP status and meet the entry into the Ladies FA Cup for 2012/13

2011 also saw Andy pick up the London FA Coach of the Year as part of the McDonald's Community Award Scheme.

The team was also nominated for the FA Fair Play Awards for going through the whole season without a booking.

The 2012/13 season saw us start our 10th season and it was a season of mile stones, we became one of three teams in the whole country step 6 level to reach the first round proper of the women's FA Cup. we also reached a County FA final and were runner's up in the league as well as reaching the quarter fimals of the league cup.

Parkwood were promoted to the SECWFL Premier for the 2012/14 season via a Play off match with Division One West Runners up team Wivelsfield Green.

The team was nominated for the FA National Respect and Fair Play Awards and reached the final stage of voting. The Team also picked up Secwfl Most Sporting Club (Fair Play) and Mark Goodall was awarded Secwfl Club assistant of the year award.

The team was also given the accolade as Women's Club Of The Year by the London Football Association at their annual Award Evening as recognition of their outstanding achievements in 2012/13 season.

In November the team was also invited to the Civic offices in Bexleyheath and had an audience with the Mayor of Bexley: Sharon Massey.

The team finished 2013 by being given the accolade of being team of the year in the Sent Her Forward New Year's honour list.

The team completed their first season in the Premier Division and finished 3rd just 4 points short of the champions.

Our club linesmen Mark Goodall was awarded The SECWFL: Premier Division Club Assistant of the Year Award.

The 2014/15 campaign saw us have a change in personnel within the playing staff, this was a season of rebuilding and after a shaky start the team came a respectable 6th, with our goalkeeper winning the SECWFL Premier Division Player of The Year Award.

The 2015/16 campaign started well with the team top of the league from week one and unbeaten in the league up to 2016. The teams only defeat of the season was in February 2016 and the team went on to be SECWFL premier Division Champions in May 2016.

The team was offered promotion to the L&SERWFL but we declined as we were not ready off the field to go up.

In June 2016 we had been the given the finance and the go ahead to bring our ground up to Grade C/step 7 criteria.

Work was started on the changing rooms and spectators barriers were erected and we ready for the 2016/17 season. The team retained the league title and won the league cup and our application to join thè L&SERWFL Premier was excepted.

For the 2O17/18 season, two dugout's were built and a defibrillator was purchased. The team came 4th in the league and reached the semi final of the league cup, after winning the group stage of the cup.

Our goal keeper won the league players of the year and two players won the county league with the Kent FA. The club also purchased a stand for the 2018/19 campaign.
