Boxy started as a goalkeeper in junior football at age of 11 at Alverthorpe Juniors FC. At the age of 14 Boxy was signed by Burnley FC and spent 2 years there. After his spell at Burnley, Boxy had a 2 month trial with Sheffield United before finally taking on a YTS with Scunthorpe United.
Having spent a year on a YTS with Scunthorpe United, Boxy was unsuccessful at getting a pro contract with the club and was released.
During his playing time he has had coaching from various high profile coaches, such as Graeme Kennedy (Bradford City FC GK coach), Phil Hughes (Leeds United / Burnley / Bolton Wanders GK Coach), Greg Abbott (Carlisle United Manager) and more....
After leaving Scunthorpe, Boxy had a spell at Ossett Albion U19's and Liversedge before leaving and taking time away from the game to go travelling. Since returning Boxy has been a player/Coach for Brighouse Town for the last 3 years.

Coaching.

Boxy began coaching in 2003 for the highly successful Saturday morning Soccer Elite coaching school at Hipperholme & Lightcliffe High School. Boxy was GK Coach at Soccer Elite, working with Brighouse Town Mangers and players, Mark Brier, Daz Attwood and Simon Wood. The coaching school was very successful and was running over 10 years until other coaching and playing commitments with Brighouse meant they were unable to continue on a their Saturday morning sessions.
Boxy has coached at several different places including local community schools, and has also recently coached in Norway. Boxy coaches with Brighouse Town U19's team and also works closely with Blackburn Rovers, scouting and coaching at their Development Centres.
Boxy has since joined up with Paul Brown and is now part of the successful Paul Brown Goalkeeper Coaching team.
Boxy is a Qualified level 2 FA coach and also a Qualified level 2 Goalkeeping coach, he is also in the process of gaining his level 3 (UEFA B) FA Coaching badge.
He is a member of the FA Coaches Association (FACA) and The Association of Football Coaches.
