We are delighted to announce two new exciting charity partnerships at the Menace for the 2021/22 season. The first team will be wearing a new shirt for the Cup match vs Croydon on 24 April that will feature MJ 200 Sports on the front and the MS Society on one arm.
MJ 200 Sports is the new charitable foundation of our Co-Chair, Mike Smith. Mike has sponsored the Menace for a number of years now, as well as supporting many other communities projects. His new foundation is set to continue this. This new collaboration will specifically support Peckham Town's strategy to continue to be inclusive, promote diversity and create opportunities for young people to achieve their dreams.
Mike said "I am delighted to continue my support to the wonderful Peckham Town FC. My new Foundation has been set up to provide disadvantaged young people in the area with a better chance at making a success of their lives. The Menace has achieved this for many young people over many years, and it's therefore a perfect partnership."
We are also thrilled to be partnering with MS Society. Their logo will appear on the arm of the new shirt, as well as a new large banner behind the goal at the Dulwich Park end of the ground. This is a charity that is close to the heart of all of us at the Menace. Our Manager, Mary Phillip, was diagnosed with the disease in 2017 and she recently talked about how she coped when first diagnosed. She recalled “Apart from little illnesses I’ve never had anything big. I’ve had nothing stop me in the way that this stopped me. It affected the whole right side of my body. And I was just stuck. It took a few months to recover, but it took a good year to come to terms from it and talk freely about it now. At the time it threw me big time, and it took a lot from me.”
The partnership will be formally launched at our Cup match on 24 April vs Croydon FC, which falls during MS Awareness Week from 19 to 25 April. This is a chance to raise awareness of multiple sclerosis, spread the word and encourage others to be confident about speaking up - #LetsTalkMS. Ahmed Khan, Senior Community Fundraiser (South) for the MS Society, said "We are delighted to be able to partner with the Menace family. MS is a debilitating condition that can affect anyone, at any time. There will be many people living with MS in Southwark right now - it is great that we can raise awareness and hopefully support more people through this partnership."
The club’s new tracksuits have been made possible by Oscar Mayer (Erith), which we are very grateful for. The first team home shirt will also feature UNISON on the back of the shirt, who continue to be a committed and long-term sponsor of the Menace. We very much appreciate their ongoing support. The other arm of the shirt will demonstrate our continued commitment to Black Lives Matter. We continue to be unequivocal in our support for racial equality in and outside football.
Bryan Hall, Chairman, added “Being at the heart of the community, and supporting initiatives that affect our lives in Southwark is really important for me and the club. These two new partnerships are a great way to achieve that. I am really happy that our club will partner with Mike’s new Foundation and the MS Society for the next season. I also want to thank UNISON and Oscar Mayer for their continued backing.”
