Peckham Town made six changes to the team that failed to beat Borden Village away last Saturday. Stansfeld are bottom of the Kent Country League Premier Division table, so the team and supporters were expecting a home win to put the Menace’s promotion bid back-on-track.
Peckham Town started the game on the front foot and made chances for themselves. The deadlock was broken mid-way through the half when Nicky Meta cut in from the left and hit a curling cross-cum-shot into the top corner to open the scoring for the hosts. A young Stansfeld young side acquitted themselves well for the remainder of the half, and frustrated Peckham’s efforts to extend their lead.
The hosts ran the changes shortly after half-time. Peckham brought on experienced midfield duo, Ali Amisu and Lukman Mojeed, from the bench; and Larry McArdle replaced Tommy Hobson in goal. Peckham continued to look for a second goal, but Stansfeld’s high pressing game was frustrating Town’s attempts to move the ball forward. Town finally extended their lead mid-way through the second half. Benson Aderibigbe cut in from the left and finished with aplomb from a central position.
Mary Phillip, Head Coach, said “We had a much changed side this weekend. The Lads stepped up to the challenge and did themselves proud”. The Menace play their last home game league game on Saturday 30 March, when they take on Bexley at 2.45pm. The three remaining fixtures are all away from home.
