Peckham Town made just the one change from the team that lost away to Stansfeld (O&B) on Wednesday with Ridy Ngimbi replacing Jefroy Leslie in midfield. It was a scorching hot afternoon in the sun for the Menace, but Town stayed sufficiently cool to pick up all three points.
Despite the results from the first two matches of the season, Town showed some good spells of football to show what is hopefully to come from this new look team. Peckham opened the scoring when Kevin Dance did well down the right side of the pitch, and played Marcus Black in on goal. The home goalkeeper decided to come out, but Black was sharper and he was able to nudge it past and into the vacant net. Peckham Town were not able to keep hold of the lead though, and New Romney equalised, which meant the match was all-square at the break with one goal apiece.
It was a classy Menace team goal that secured all three points in the second half. Marco Almeida picked up a loose ball in defence on the left, before playing it into Charlie Egleton in the middle who skipped past his marker and played the ball out-wide to Youssef Bouimane breaking up the pitch from right-back. Youssef took a touch before playing it to substitute Ashley Myers in front of the centre circle. Ashley turned his marker before switching the play back again to the left, where Nicky Meta took two touches before the captain swung in a perfectly timed cross just as Marcus Black got in front of his man to nod the ball back and over the stranded ‘keeper. It was a delightful team goal that deservedly won the game for Peckham, as the game finished 2-1 to the away team.
Manager, Mary Phillip, said “I was very pleased that we applied pressure as a unit today and each player played there role. This enabled Marcus to grab two goals. There are still several things that need ironing out, but it was a great performance from the Menace. Each game poses a new challenge, so we will stay grounded and make sure we take each game as it comes.”
Peckham Town are at home to Ide Hill on Bank Holiday Monday and take on Bromleians on Saturday 31 August. You can keep updated on all the goings on at Peckham Town by following @PeckhamTownFC on Twitter and Instagram.
