Now, you probably know that I wasn’t at the Menace Arena for Saturday’s game, as I mentioned at the end of last weeks match report. In fact prior to kick off I was sitting in the Chine Cafe in Blackgang Chine waiting for Jackie, the club secretary to WhatsApp me the team sheet. Now, as an old Dinosaur that I am I was getting a bit worried as nothing had been sent and kick off was fast approaching, but before I was away with the Fairies the message arrived.
Once again an unchanged starting eleven for the fourth game in a row, something that hasn’t happened in, well to be honest, it must be years! Nelson Nunes started in goal with a back four or Clayton Ryan, Patrick Yawson, Jeremiah Duah Danso and captain Nicky Meta. Raymond Agyemang anchored the midfield with Femi Cole and Tidi Barry in the middle of the midfield. The front three were once again, Camilo Andres Nieva, Gabriel Gomes Souto and Eric Alhassan. On the bench was Chisom Nnadika, Nathan Chris, Joshua Oduwuga, Anass Ashraf and keeper Nathan Gamester.
After last weeks near Extinction event at the Farrow Fields the numbers came out to witness Peckham’s Evolution, as an a-Maze-ing 300 packed into the Menace Arena. Hoping for a repeat of their gr-eight performance from the previous weeks’ game at Farnborough, surely the home advantage would pay dividends. The game had now kicked off and as I began to make my way around the UK’s oldest theme park I continued to keep an eye on my phone for all the goal updates. As half time arrived, and like Old Mother Hubbard’s cupboard, my messages were bare! Goalless at the halfway point but one message read that Peckham could’ve and should’ve been two or three goals to the good.
It was clear that Farnborough were not going heading down the Plug Hole’ as they had the week before, but there was still another 45 to play yet. As the second half got underway I was eagerly awaiting more messages, hoping that I’d receive at least one saying we’d scored. With now over an hour played it was like my phone was as dead as a Dodo, nothing, not a single message! As I entered Cowboy Town i was half expecting to see tumbleweeds blow across my path, but then I kind of knew this would be an entirely different game this week.
Full time was now approaching and I had still heard nothing, but that was probably more to do with the sporadic mobile data connection, after all, I was on a clifftop, 400 feet above see level. Then like something out of a Vortex the messages came in. I was almost as happy as the Jolly Robin, super sub Joshua Oduwuga heads Peckham ahead at the second attempt on 70 minutes. Then five minutes later he rounds the keeper and bags number 2. The game had now finished but all of a sudden another message had arrived, Eric Alhassan had made it three-nil to Peckham in the second added minute.
So, not quite the goal Fiesta that maybe some were hoping for, but another three points that lifts Peckham into second place in the league on goal difference with 22 points. Next week normal service will be resumed, as we welcome mid-tabled Stansfeld O&B Reserves to the Menace Arena, so keep an eye on all our socials for all the information.
