PECKHAM CRUISE PAST HALLS AFC RESERVES TO MAINTAIN PERFECT START

PECKHAM CRUISE PAST HALLS AFC RESERVES TO MAINTAIN PERFECT START

Jackie Phillip

Match Report from Dave Webster

Peckham Town continued their flawless start to the season with an emphatic victory over Halls AFC
Reserves, making it three wins from three to sit atop the table on goal difference. Missing several
first-team regulars through injury and unavailability, manager Mary Phillip turned to two new
signings and the the U23s squad - a gamble that paid immediate dividends in a dominant first-
half display.

Peckham seized control right from the opening whistle and just four minutes in, Lookman
Onasanya notched his third goal of the season. After Femi Cole’s initial effort was blocked, the
resulting deflected pass was nodded on by James Armes into the box, where Onasanya chested
the ball down and fired home from 15 yards out.

Camilo Andres Nieva nearly doubled the lead
minutes later, dragging a shot just wide of the far post.
Peckham’s pressure was relentless, leading to a spectacular second goal in the 18th minute.
Omarley Clarke fed Femi Cole centrally, and the midfielder unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard
rocket into the top left corner.

Just two minutes later, Cole turned provider, slipping a defence-splitting pass to Onasanya, who delicately dinked the ball over the advancing keeper for his second of the match.

Despite an enforced change in the 21st minute, with Jimmy Onante replacing the injured
Jeremiah Duah Danso, Peckham added a fourth on 33 minutes. Captain Nicky Meta launched a
deep free-kick from his own half, with both Armes and Andres Nieva beating the offside trap, it
was Andres Nieva who got the decisive touch, lifting the ball over the keeper before tapping into
an empty net.

Armes had a fifth ruled out for offside shortly after, while keeper Nana Asante required treatment late in the half, forcing Peckham down to ten men for a brief spell under the new rules as James Armes left the pitch over on the far side.

The second half proved a far quieter affair. Halls AFC Reserves returned with a more organized shape,
while Peckham comfortably managed the game. Defensive stability snuffed out any rare attacks
from the visitors, though clear-cut chances were hard to come by at either end.

Manager Mary Phillip refreshed her side with second-half substitutions, bringing on Michael Winkless for Noah Kili on the hour mark and later swapping two-goal hero Onasanya for David Proana.

Mallick Deho-Henry picked up Peckham’s first booking of the campaign for not leaving the pitch after the game was stopped for his injury in the 81st minute, while Armes saw the half's best chance as he headed wide in stoppage time.

It finished a job well done for Peckham, who now look ahead to next week's away clash against
newcomers FC Greenwich at Metrogas Sports Ground in New Eltham. As always your support
