Juniors Roundup

Castletown City U10 vs Penrith AFC U10 at the Reck 17/11/19
Penrith were in high spirits following a good win against Appleby the weekend before.
Following the first half whistle it was Castletown who were pushing forward first but Penrith stood strong and managed to break away, the first strike came from Charlie Wright who managed to get a shot off in tight space but was tipped wide, further pressure from Penrith created a wave off corners with Charlie McGinness just firing wide from the re-bound.
Penrith kept plugging away with Beau Romano making a good run down the wing, knocked through to Joel Mounsey who slotted through to Charlie Wright but the Castletown keeper made a good save, the following corner was swung in but Charlie McGinness header was steered just over the cross bar.
Castletown dug deep and were resilient but Penrith could just not find that break through, Castletown came on the attack with some good passing and managed to get through on goal but Penrith keeper Lucas Thompson pulled off a good finger tip save to keep it 0-0. Castletown kept up the tempo so Penrith had to be alert but Charlie Price and Lewis Ritson were on hand to put the big tackles in when needed.
Penrith went again with further attacks but it just did no come off, with 8 corners in the first half it was hard to believe the score line was still 0-0 at half time.
With a couple of changes at half time Penrith came out fighting, with players getting out wide, spaces began to open up which aloud Charlie Wright to drive forward and slot the ball through to Jake Sowerby to score the first goal of the game 0-1 Penrith.
Castletown pushed back and caused Penrith problems and it took a goal line clearance from Charlie Price to keep Penrith in the lead.
Penrith settled down and went on the attack again and it was the combination play between Charlie Wright and Jake who played the ball through to Elliott Dent who slotted the ball away well, a good team goal.
Elliott was back on the score sheet again following a quick Penrith attack, the ball bounced up nicely for Elliott to strike and lob the keeper.
I think Castletown caught Penrith napping after going 3 goals up, they went on the attack and found themselves 1v1 with the keeper, the striker finished well, this was just a reminder this game was far from over.
Castletown were driving forward with some good runs but Oliver Nicolson tracked back 2/3 of the pitch to get the tackles in to cancel out there attack.
With the game coming to an end penrith had one more attack starting from the back with Cal Pearson onto Charlie Wright to drive forward linking up with Jake, a tackle was made but the ball fell to that man again Elliott to slot home his hat trick and Penrith’s 4th.
A really hard fought game on a heavy pitch, well done both teams.

Man of the match as picked by Castletown Manager goes to Elliott Dent
