Juniors Roundup

Penrith Blues U9s v Castletown Reds U9s

Another morning in the lovely Cumbrian rain!!
Well played this morning lads. Especially in the first half in which after conceding first we then went on to dominate the rest of the half through our ability to win the ball back in defence and midfield and launch swift counter-attacks. The result of our hard work was some fantastically worked team moves and some great goals.
The work from the last two weeks on staying on the ball and choosing the right opportunity to carry the ball forward was there for all to see and all players did this well.

Man of the match this week goes to a player who scored his first goal of the season today and his excellent play, both on and off the ball resulted in him scoring 4 goals and I think also assisting 2.
Well played Rhys Ainsworth ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

A great team performance and to score 10 goals in a match against the same team we scored 3 against a few weeks ago shows how quickly the lads are improving.
Well done to all ⚽️?

Castletown Utd U10 vs Penrith AFC U10 at the Wreck Sunday 13th Oct KO 11.15.

Another weekend of football and yet another weekend of rain, these boys will end up with webbed feet if the weather keeps up.
Castletown were quickest from the start and gave a stark warning of how quick they are on the counter attack with a cross whipped over, for the header just to be sent wide of the post.
Penrith settled down and started to play, the first strike fell to George Curry who collected a through ball and found his strike saved by the Utd 'keeper.
Penrith were on the front foot and the front 3 of Charlie Wright, Joel Mounsey and George started to pass the ball around really well, getting the ball goal bound but the Utd' keeper was on form to deny Penrith.
Penrith got their breakthrough that came from a clever through ball from Joel to find George to slot home.
Castletown tried to push Penrith back but Charlie McGinness and Charlie Price made some great interceptions in midfield to keep the pressure on Utd and get that second goal.
Castletown put some good passes together themselves to create some space to fire a concession of shots at goal but Lucas Thompson was on his toes to pull off some great saves.
Castletown’s persistence finally paid off as they got their the equaliser off the back of a Penrith attack with a quick counter, a well worked goal.
This was end to end stuff of an exiting game we could not believe the half time whistle came round so fast.

The second half got underway and Castletown were quick to get out the blocks, with the ball bouncing around in the Penrith box Utd slotted a shot away to take the lead for the first time in the game.

One thing about this Penrith team, they keep their heads up from going behind, Elliot Dent and Oliver Nicolson linked up well to get the ball down the wide areas and over to Jake Sowerby who was testing the 'keeper with a few long range shots. Beau Romano and Lewis Ritson were clearing up down the left hand side breaking up Utds quick attacks.
Penrith kept plugging away and finally the ball fell to Jake, he turned his man and struck a great right foot shot straight into the top right corner, game on.
With full time looming both teams kept cancelling each other out, Charlie Wright made some good tackles to collect the ball, he found himself with some space to get a shot off but it just went wide of the Utd post, this was to be the last kick of the game, 2-2 it ended to a great competitive game of football, a deserved draw for both teams, well done everyone.

Man of the match as picked by Castletown Utd Manager goes to Lucas Thompson.
