Juniors Roundup

Penrith AFC U9 v Langwathby U9 Frenchfields 31/3/19 11.15 KO
It has been almost 6 months since these two sides had met so there was a good anticipation about this game.
Penrith were slow to get going as Langwathby were putting them under pressure from the start but Penrith started to settle things down and got their breakthrough from a good run down the left wing from Lewis Ritson who’s cross was met by the in form George Curry 1-0.
Langwathby came at Penrith with some good play and were very close from a long range shot that just went wide of the Penrith post, it was from the goal kick Penrith built up from the back moving the ball swiftly forward then followed some good exchange play between Joel Mounsey and George but the Langwathby goal keeper made a good save from the resulting shot.
Penrith regained possession again Joel slotted a good through ball for George to fire home to make it 2-0 Penrith, Penrith brought on Oliver Nickleson for Joel to add some fresh legs up front and you could see Penrith we’re thirsty for more goals with Lewis unlucky not to get on the score sheet following George’s through ball which we could only watch skim over the crossbar.
Langwathby were still dangerous on the counter attack and caught Penrith napping and got their goal, game on. Penrith kept there heads and Charlie Wright collected the loose balls and drove at Langwathby pushing them back into there own box, from this George found the ball out wide running to the by line zipping a shot goalwards for it to take a big deflection past the looking on Langwathby goal keeper but Langwathby were looking to finish the half strong and should have scored if it weren’t from a fantastic save from Lucas Thompson and that was to bring an end to a very close first half.
The second half was underway and Joel came back on but Penrith were put under pressure by the Langwathby forwards searching for that second goal but lucky for Penrith Cal Pearson and Charlie Price were in great form and made some very good interceptions.
Penrith were good going forward and George turned from scorer to provider to place the ball through for Joel to finally get on the score sheet but you just knew this game had more goals from either team as both teams were playing good open football.
Charlie Wright collected the ball on the half way line and drove at Langwathby defence passing three players leaving him with a one v one with the goal keeper but he stayed composed and slotted home a great individual goal.
Langwathby were straight back at Penrith and created space down the wing causing Penrith problems before slotting home a well deserved second goal, this was end to end stuff both teams having a good go at each other and yet again Penrith finding space and who was to pop up George to grab his hat trick and Penrith sixth of the game.
Oliver came back on and immediately had an impact only to be denied from the Langwathby goal keeper who regardless of the score had a great game, this lifted Langwathby and they pressed in numbers never dropping there heads they slotted in a third, but as before Penrith showed the determination to never stop running they moved the ball around well to find George in the right place at the right time and that was the final whistle.

What a great game of football each and every player coming off the pitch with a smile on there face, win or lose the enjoyment should always be there.

Also big thanks to Andy Wright for refereeing an excellent performance by him as we all know how much pressure it is to referee at any level.

And last but not least welcome Oliver to the team well played today.
