Juniors Roundup

Penrith AFC U9 v Castletown Utd U9 Blenkinship Trophy Final @Penrith football club 10.45 KO
A highly anticipated game between these two great bunch of players who had met many times before with the games decided by the finest of margins and this final was to be no different.
Castletown got the game underway and the first 10 min was a testimate to both teams as they both kept cancelling each other out with neither team managing to get the ball down and out wide, eventually both teams settled down and it was Castletown who got the first shot off, hitting the bar and quick hands by Penrith Goal keeper Lucas Thompson to clear the danger, this was a wake up call for Penrith and they started to up the gears with Charlie Wright getting the ball forward too Beau Romano who struck the ball well against the bar then it fell to Joel Mounsey who’s shot was saved by the Castletown goal keeper but the lose ball just would not go in.
Castletown charged forward and forced Lucas into making another great save, the 1st half finished 0-0 and it was only goalless down to both goal keepers pulling off some great saves.
Penrith made a half time change bringing Oliver Nicholson for Joel up front, Penrith got the ball down and started to make some good runs with Beau and George Curry flying down the wings but still Castletowns defence were resilient. Cal Pearson came on for George who had taken a knock to the ankle and was straight in the thick of it but Castletown got there breakthrough picking up a lose ball and firing it past an unsighted keeper 0-1, the game was that close that Penrith kept there heads up as they knew there was still time to get back in this game, Joel and George came back on and Penrith managed to force a corner, Joel swung the corner in and with Castletown unable to clear the lose ball Charlie Wright was quickest to react and fired the ball home 1-1.
This game was end to end stuff and Castletown had a strong spell but fine tackles made from Charlie Price and Lewis Ritson who both had put a shift in all game broke the play up.
With extra time looming both teams tried to get that winner but the ref blew the final whistle, with nothing separating theses teams it was going to be a very tense 10min extra time.
Extra time got underway and it was Penrith who stayed composed making some good runs from Oliver, Penrith had the best chance of the half with George sending a corner over for Beau to find himself in space and just firing a header wide. The second half of extra time got underway with 5 min left to play for both teams went for it and that man again Lucas in fine form making the saves when it counts, Penrith fired forward with one minute to go and received a free kick 25yards out, all players pushed into the Castletown box and up stepped Charlie Wright with one thing on his mind to go for goal, he pulled the trigger and somehow found its way through all the bodies and into the back of the net 2-1 Penrith and that was followed by the final whistle, fairytale stuff as the players celebrated.

What a fantastic achievement in there first full year together for this young team and commiseration to Castletown who played fantastic and should be very proud of what they have achieved, both teams are winners as we witnessed a great game of football, and great gamesmanship from from both sets of players.

What a fantastic turn out by everyone, to all parents from both teams who turn up week in week out, rain or shine, this was for all the hard work you put in to see your boys play out there today.
I don’t know about you lot but I think it’s more nerve racking as a parent watching than playing???
Big thanks to Jimmy who is always there and keeps this whole thing going??

After winning their last league game of the season against Castletown Dragons, Penrith U11s won the U12 league by an impressive 5 points.
Next up was Sundays Joe Fisher cup final against Langwathby.
Penrith had done the double over their opponents in the league but knew they would have to be on their game to complete a league and cup double.
Penrith, in white, took to the field at Frenchfield Park, led out by captain Tyler Todd, who had been in brilliant form all season.
The game kicked off with Penrith fully focussed and in determined mood. Playing some quick, effective football, they settled well and began to press Langwathby. With only the odd half chance at either end, Charlie Dinsdale broke down the right, his cross finding Robin Taylor in front of goal, he adjusted well to volley past the keeper and make it 1-0.
Within seconds of the restart, the impressive Robin Taylor, broke through the Langwathby defence and with just the keeper to beat, he slotted home his second of the game.
The Whites were now well on top and soon after made it count. Tyler Todd was put through and raced clear of the defence. He superbly rounded the keeper to score and make it a well deserved 3-0 scoreline to Penrith, who went into halftime full of confidence.
The second half started well for Langwathby, playing some good football and going close on a few occasions. Penrith keeper Joe Cox making one brilliant stop, pushing onto his crossbar. The game continued with chances at either end until late in the half, Charlie Dinsdale, who had been outstanding all season, collected and drove forward. Skipping past a few defenders, he found his captain in the area. Playing an excellent one-two, he collected and shot low into the net to make it 4-0.
Soon after, Zane Romano fired in to make it an impressive 5-0 after the ball fallen to him in the box.
The game ended and Penrith had won the cup. Langwathby deserved great credit for the way they played and the manner the did it in.

Penrith Panthers took on Castletown Tigers in the U14 Robert Irving Cup and took the game to the Tigers by creating a number of early chances but found their goalkeeper in superb form.
It wasn't long until Ben Dargue opened the scoring with a thunderous shot into the roof of the net.
Either side of the break Jack Bennison scored a brace before Finlay Awde rounded off a comprehensive victory for the Panthers.
Take nothing away from the younger Castletown team who never gave up and battled for every ball. Congratulations to them in reaching the final after beating older teams on the way.

In the final game of the day, Penrith U16s rounded off a superb day for the club by lifting the Tommy Hall Memorial Trophy.
Well done to everyone involved, fantastic stuff.
