All teams will compete in the Cumbria Junior Cricket League and we will have 3 teams competing at the under 11 age group (one of these is a Development / Girls team as we ran last year) and 2 at under 13 and 1 at under 15 age groups where they will play league and cup games. Girls up to under 13 age group (school year 8) are allowed to play in the under 11 age group Development / Girls team under CJCL rules.
MATCH DAYS AND EVENINGS ARE THE SAME AS THEY WERE FOR THE 2018 SEASON

UNDER 11 LEAGUE

Penrith Girls / Development– manager Mark Osborne
Penrith Green (u10) – manager Beth Osborne

Matches will be played mainly on Sunday mornings. This year these will be 8 – a –side, 16 over matches to meet new ECB guidelines

Matches will be played mainly on Friday evenings

UNDER 15 LEAGUE

Penrith Gold (u15) – managers Nigel Fowles and Charlie Hansford

Matches will be played mainly on Monday evenings.

If any parent is able to help the team managers with scoring / umpiring / making drinks for the teams / washing up afterwards etc please let Mark Osborne know asap on 01768 866906.The team managers have a lot to sort out on match days / nights so any help would be much appreciated. If anyone is unsure how to score / umpire we would hold a meeting to explain how to do this etc. so don’t let your lack of experience put you off.

SENIOR CRICKET – 3RD TEAM– For the 2019 season we have a 3rd senior team in the Eden Valley Cricket League. This side normally has a significant number of junior cricketers playing in them. These are youngsters who we feel are capable of playing senior cricket and would like to play senior cricket. However, our aim is for all junior cricketers to play at the highest level possible within their capabilities and not just be confined to playing in the 3rd team. There will not be a 4th team this season as for the last couple of years it has proved too difficult for the club / captain to ensure a 4TH team is fielded on a weekly basis.
The captain of the 3rd team will be Nigel Fowles / Charlie Hansford.

2) CLUB WEBSITE/JUNIOR FIXTURES/CLUB CRICKET CLOTHING AND LEISURE WEAR /RESULTS WEBSITE

The web site address for our club is www.pitchero.com/clubs/penrithcc

The main club sponsor continues to be A W Jenkinson whose logo will be on all cricket club clothing for the 2019 season. 3) COACHING NEWS

We will again have use of the “Lobsters” which will aid batting, wicket keeping and fielding practice along with the bowling machine.

We will of course have use of the artificially surfaced 3 bay practice net again with artificial bowlers run ups enabling us to give children the opportunity to bat and ball in a net environment.

4) PARENTS REGISTRATION MEETING – WEDS 17TH AND THURS 18TH APRIL AT 6PM

This year we will be holding a short registration night meeting on Weds 17th April and Thurs 18th April at 6pm. We need parents to attend please if at all possible as we need to make everyone aware of what is going on at the club during the summer and also pay junior subs for the coming year – it be very much appreciated if you can make the effort to attend.

5) SUMMER COACHING / PRACTICE SESSIONS

The cost of attending these sessions will again be £30 for the season and means each youngster becomes a junior member of the club. For any families who want to become members of the club, there is a family membership which costs £60.This is for social membership to cover either or both parent(s)/carer(s) and any number of junior members under the age of 15 on the 1st September 2018 who wish to attend coaching sessions.
In addition, for those youngsters who play in teams there will be a match fee of £1 for each match played

We would also encourage as many family memberships as possible to help the cricket club / junior section to meet its ever escalating costs – if you are able to join as a family it would be much appreciated.

The Junior and Family membership costs remain the same as last year and we believe that the membership costs offer excellent value for money when compared with other activities which youngsters undertake.

The attached application form for junior membership should be completed for any child attending coaching sessions and pages 1 and 2 handed in with your membership payment.Pages 3 and 4 of this application form should be RETAINED for the information of parents and juniors.

7)COACHING WEATHERLINE

We again intend to have a “coaching weather line” which you will be able to ring each coaching night to find out whether coaching is taking place if the weather is not very good.

There will be a message left on the following mobile number

07798 737259

by 4:45pm on Wednesdays and Thursdays to inform you if coaching is taking place or has had to be cancelled due to bad weather conditions or poor ground conditions. Please do not ring before 4:45pm as it is unlikely that a decision will have been made prior to this time.

If coaching is not taking place there will be no coaches at the club to supervise your child(ren) and therefore before you drop your child(ren) off at the cricket club you should ensure that coaching is definitely taking place. This is particularly important when the evening is fine but it has been raining earlier in the day as underfoot conditions may not allow coaching to take place.

Please note the Weatherline refers only to coaching sessions NOT junior matches.

8) GIRLS / WOMENS CRICKET

For any girls wanting to play cricket a Development team (as we ran last year) has been entered into the Cumbria Junior Cricket League for the 2019 season. The girls will then dovetail into the Cumbria wide development of girls cricket up to County standard. The team will play in the CJCL under 11 league. Girls are able to play in this team up to and including under 13 ie school year 8.

For those girls playing in the team in the under 11 league, matches will take place on a Sunday morning. Therefore to receive coaching these girls can attend the sessions on a Wednesday evening from 6pm to 7:30pm at Penrith Cricket Club

The sessions will be staffed by both male and female coaches who will all be ECB Qualified Level 1 or Level 2 coaches. We are looking to provide varied and fun coaching sessions involving a variety of cricket related games, practice games of cricket/ Kwik cricket, net sessions and coaching on particular techniques involving fielding, batting and bowling drills.

If you are already playing, have played cricket or are someone who would like to have a go please come along to our sessions.

9) CLUB MARK/ POLICIES

The club is an “ECB Club Mark” registered club which demonstrates that the club provides a safe, child friendly environment in which young people can develop their skill.

As a result we are obliged to conform to ECB Guidance regarding the way we operate our junior section. All policies are displayed on the notice board adjacent to the changing rooms in the club and some are also part of the junior membership application form - a copy of which is attached to this Newsletter.

10) CLUB RULES / CODE OF CONDUCT / DISCIPLINE

The club has always enjoyed a good reputation in respect of the behaviour of our junior players and the spirit in which they play the game.

To ensure that this continues we would ask parents that they and their children read the Junior Club rules which form part of the Junior Membership application form. We also ask that both parents and children read the Code of Conduct for Cricket Club Members and Guests that is attached to this Newsletter so that everyone fully understands the standards of behaviour that we expect of the members of our club. Anyone whose behaviour does not meet these standards will be dealt with under the club’s Disciplinary Policy – a copy of this document is displayed on the noticeboard adjacent to the changing rooms in the club.

UNACCEPTABLE STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOUR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED

11) ECB GUIDANCE –“JUNIOR CRICKETERS PLAYING IN ADULT MATCHES

The ECB has issued guidance covering the participation of young cricketers in adult matches.Age groups are based on the age of the player at midnight on 31st August in the year preceding the current season.A full copy of these guidelines is available on the junior section noticeboard at the club but particularly important issues are detailed below
a)Any player in the under 13 age group and younger must have explicit written consent from a parent or guardian before participating in adult matches. Our junior registration document attached now includes the above.
b)Any club wishing to play a player in the under 11 age group in an adult League or Cup match must obtain the explicit approval of the League or Cup management before the player can play. Approval should only be given to exceptionally talented players.
c)It is strongly recommended that a parent, guardian or other identified responsible adult is present whenever a player in the under 13 age group or younger plays in an adult match.

12) ECB GUIDANCE ON SUN SAFETY

Taking part, or watching, outdoor summer sports can mean that young skin is subjected to “prolonged sun exposurve” which can result in sunburn even on a cloudy day.

The ECB recommends that clubs, individuals, coaches, parents and others consider using the resources available through the “ok sun safety code” which provides information, advice, resources and accreditation on Sun Safety for children.

The guidance includes making sure that coaches and others set an example and are seen to take steps to protect themselves and that they encourage children to wear a hat, put on sun cream (factor 30 or above) and cover up

13) TRANSPORT POLICY

As part of Child Welfare regulations issued by the ECB, parents/guardians or other responsible adults are responsible for transporting players to and from matches and we have had to adopt a transport policy which states this. The implementation of this policy is not intended to exclude any player from participation and parents/guardians should contact the Club Welfare Officer if they have any problems with the transportation of players to matches.
There will also be someone available on the Registration Night on Wednesday 18th April and Thursday 19th April to explain this issue for any parent/guardian wishing to discuss the matter further.

14) END OF SEASON PRESENTATION NIGHT – 4/10/19

It may seem a long way off but we have arranged the date for the end of season presentation night. This will be held on Friday 4th October at Penrith Cricket,Sports and Social Club – further details to follow during the summer.

As you will see yet again there is lots happening for anyone interested in playing cricket at Penrith. We are looking forward to another excellent year for all those involved. If you have any queries which have not been covered here please contact Mark Osborne on 01768 866906.
