A HISTORY OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT AT PERTHSHIRE RFC:
In 2003 "React-2-Rugby" was initiated and Perthshire RUFC embarked upon one of the most challenging rugby development programmes that this country had ever seen.In the first 3 years many of the club development initiatives received national recognition and several were used as blue-prints for activities in the rest of Scotland. In the Spring of 2006 Perthshire RUFC agreed upon a an equally demanding 3 year programme and so began the second stage of the Community Rugby Developemnt in Perth.
The second stage emphasised previous successes but more importantly provided a natural progression in this next devlopment period.
There were 6 key aims :
1)An integrated Development Structure in all Primary and Secondary Schools.
2)Maintain and Develop the Coordinated Development Structure of Perthshire RUFC Junior and Youth Sections.
3)To Adopt a Policy of Lifestyle Management for Young Players and Generate an Environment for this to Prosper.
4)To be Recognised as the Main Sporting Organisation Promoting Sport Locally and to be Recognised as a Regional and National Sporting Centre of Excellence.
5)That the Activities of the Development Team, The Centre of Excellence and The Perthshire Rugby Academy are Self-Financing.
6)Recognition of all Individual and Team Successes within Perthshire RUFC.
At the start the key was to re-establish rugby in all the Secondary schools of Perth and provide taster sessions in the key feeder primary schools
The successes were tremendous wih over 9000 plus active participants from 10 secondary and 61 primary schools. We were seen as the key provider for sport locally and have a Service Level Agreement wih the Local Council to provide Curricular rugby education, and one of the major providers in Scotland (SRU Club of the Month March 2006).
