On Friday night, the Perth and Kinross Spirit of Youth Awards took place at Perth's Concert Hall to celebrate the achievements of young people in the region.
In the sports category, it was the efforts of local school rugby teams that dominated the proceedings.
Runners up was the Sports Comp Rugby Team, a joint effort between St. John's Academy and Perth Grammar. This season has seen them consistently put in strong performances at both S1/2 and S3/4 level as well as reaching the Semi Finals of the P&K U18 7's. The S3/4 team have even qualified for the Brewin Dolphin Bowl Competition. Thanks to the efforts of PE Teachers, Greg Marshall (St. J), Dave Taylor (St. J), Andrew Lochhead (PG) and Donald Kinross (BD), numbers at training have grown and grown this season to regularly getting over 30, with the hunger for rugby constantly growing at both schools. The award is just the start of great things for the Sports Comp Rugby Programme.
The U15 team from girls rugby powerhouses The Community School of Auchterarder, took the main awards after a great start to the season, which saw them win the National Schools 7's this weekend. The programme, led by Rugby champion, Phil Shore has been one of the biggest in Scotland for a number of years and is this award is further recognition of the efforts of Phil and the school.
A huge well done to both schools from all at Perthshire RFC.
