Frustration (without the pop-o-matic)
Peterborough Ladies traveled to Shelford on a St Patricks day afternoon that saw at least three seasons during the warm up and game.
Playing on the very green 3G pitch Boro kicked off, except Steph didn't, and the game started with a scrum on halfway. It was a different looking Shelford team to the one that played the return fixture at the beginning of the season, and they were up to try and nullify the Boro game. The first half saw a lot of Boro pressure before a misplaced pass or knock on would see the game restart with a set piece. Joss had to leave halfway through the half with a nasty ankle injury. Thankfully we had a few subs and Ellen entered the fray. Defence remained the order of the half with neither team able to break down the their opponent.

The second half saw Peterborough apply more pressure, but it was the hosts who scored first, breaking away upfield before scoring near the posts after a few phases, converted. This spurred Boro on, and following what seemed like 40 phases, Nat was able to burst through the home defence and score. A similar pattern followed, Boro pressure before a Shelford breakaway, which saw the tryscorer able to get round to the posts to make the conversion easier (and successful). Time was starting to run out, but Boro backed themselves and went straight back on the attack. This time, again following a lot of pressure, Michelle, playing second row, was able to put Sarah into enough of a gap to force herself over the line. Zoe got the extras, but we were now into the final two minutes. Despite their best efforts to force the result the final whistle blew when one of the Shelford players gleefully kicked the ball out.

Our thanks to Shelford for the match and to our match official.
After the match, the Boro Ladies were pretty tough on themselves, not a bad thing, but you need to remember that this is your first season at NC1, and it has been a success.
Captain Mel chose Michelle and Jess R as her forward and back of the match.
Next week, the Ladies final league game of the season, Olney at Fortress Fengate. Come down and support them, its the least they deserve.
