Peterborough Ladies 14 Olney Ladies 52

National Emotional Rollercoaster Day
(Angry Sarah Sees Red - Literally)
On a lovely spring afternoon, Boro Ladies welcomed Olney to Fortress Fengate for their last league game of 2018/19.
Both teams were pretty evenly matched in the reverse fixture earlier in the season, so it was going to be a tight one to call. Following the early (and usual) sounding out, Steph was able to make the most of some good possession in the Olney 22, and throw a dummy to reach the tryline. Skipper Mel was successful with the conversion. Looking good. Then a moment that changed the game. Sarah A went through a ruck, only to receive a red card from the referee who said that she stamped on one of the Olney players. It looked harsh from the stands, and that no-one made an issue on the pitch appeared even stranger. Boro's job got tougher, not helped when Georgie went off injured. The visitors made the most of the space and scored shortly afterwards. Boro managed to get back on an even keel for a while before Olney stretched their lead just before half time.

The second half saw Olney stretch their lead, before Sophie was able to cut a great line on her way to the tryline, with Mel getting her second conversion. Just as it looked as if things were on the up, Alisha had to go off injured, seeing a reshuffle in the pack. Then Anita was yellow carded, for stamping (allegedly). Olney had more space to play with and continued to score. However, Boro's heads did not drop, and at one point Verity was playing at outside centre. Boro kept working, with everyone putting in a shift, but the visitors were able to keep the scoreboard moving, while keeping Boro at bay.

Our thanks to Olney for the game, played in a good spirit.
Skipper Mel had to select a back and forward of the match, and has it has been all season, it was a difficult choice. But Steph and Emma B had the honour today.
So, following promotion last year, the Peterborough Ladies have finished as runners up in Midlands NC1. An absolutely brilliant effort from the players and coaches. Something to work on for next season.
However, next up Jersey away (yep, that Jersey in the Channel Islands) as the Ladies go on tour.
