Club History

Petersfield Town Juniors was formed in 1975 by John Wood who retired in 2004. John and another parent David Martin were both involved in Cub-scout football and realised their sons were becoming too old to play and needed a club.

They set to work establishing the first team of under 12s, with fixtures being played at The Avenue. A semi-derelict science classroom near the site was used for changing rooms and visiting teams were entertained in it. In 1980 the growing club moved to new pitches at Penns playing fields, which included facilities for four changing rooms. John Wood said, "The first season was fraught as sharp flints surfaced on the new ground. The club spent many hours clearing these from the playing area. Despite this there were some nasty cuts and youngsters needed hospital visits and stitches. Things eventually settled down and the fields were home to the club for nine years"

However the expansion of the Rugby Club in 1980's forced the club out of the dressing rooms and in 1989 the Town Juniors moved to their current home at Love Lane. Although in appalling condition, with no hot water, disgusting toilets and a poor kitchen area, it was made useable after some heavy cleaning. By 1999 a new building had replaced it, with six changing rooms and a small hall.

The Club now runs over 30 teams from Under 8s to Under 18s and puts on training sessions for younger players (Under 6s and Under 7s) under the guidance of FA qualified coaches. Petersfield Town Juniors has been competing in local leagues (including Portsmouth, Hampshire Girls and North East Hants) and county cup competitions for over 40 years.
