2019/20 Season in numbers - Pinxton FC

We take a look back to the start of the season and rack up the numbers before the season ground to a unprecedented halt in mid March..

May 26th 2019 - the club welcomed the duo of Sean Staton and Mark Barker to the club to form part of the management team to work alongside the already established and Pinxton FC legend Kenny Shinfield.
Both came into the club after helping guide Mickleover RBL FC to their highest league finish in the Central Midlands (joint 3rd with Pinxton), and also capturing the Derbyshire Junior Cup during the 2018/19 season.

A total of 17 league games where played in which Pinxton FC finished the season (although declared null and void) in 3rd place on 39 points after 12 wins, 3 draws and just 2 defeats!
The weather managed to play a massive part during the 2019/20 season with in excess of 20+ postponements both at home and away in league and cup due to the weather - the second round of the Abacus Lighting Floodlit Cup taking 8 attempts to play in which on the last attempt Pinxton finally progressed to the quarter finals on 6-5 penalties after a cagey 1-1 draw - a game which was actually played at a neutral ground - Langwidth Road, courtesy of Shirebrook Town FC

No one player featured in every game during the season. In total, 38 players featured on the pitch for Pinxton FC during the season - Left back Sam Groves did however make the most with 23 appearances out of a possible 25 league and cup games (16 games being played at the Van Elle Arena)
The top 5 appearance makers for the club where as follows - Sam Groves (23), Goalkeeper Liam Power (21), Wide Midfielder Sion Green (20), Attacking Midfielder Robert Fretwell (19) & Striker Daniel Minto (19).

Robert Fretwell finished the season as the clubs top goalscorer with 14 from 19 games. He put a fantastic run together scoring 10 goals in 10 games before falling foul to injury.
The top 5 goal scorers for the club where as follows - Robert Fretwell (19), Sion Green (10), Daniel Minto (10), John Fones (6), Keiran Debrouwer (4 - in his only game for the club).
In total 18 players scored for the club this season, with the side averaging 3.11 goals a game, and conceding 1.23 goals a game.

The club bowed out of the FA Vase at the first hurdle losing in the 1st Qualifying round to Step 6 Birstall United of the United Counties League at home 2-3.
The club received a bye in the second round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup after Midland League Division outfit Stapenhill FC withdraw. The club where then drawn to play Step 5 local rivals South Normanton Athletic. Despite putting in one of the best performances of the season, Pinxton fell to an agonising 2-1 defeat in front of a bumper crowd at the Van Elle Arena.

The club fared better however in the Abacus Lighting Floodlit and Buckingham Insurance League Cups - making it through to the quarter finals in both competitions.
Pinxton FC are in fact the reigning holders in both of these competitions, and haven't been beaten in the league cup for since losing 3-1 aet to Harworth Colliery FC all the way back in September 2016.
Pinxton FC where also invited to play in the first ever Chairman's Trophy season curtain raiser which saw the winners of the 2018/19 Buckingham Insurance League Cup play the winners of the Phoenix Trophies Division One Cup at Peel Croft, Burton - with Pinxton running out 5-1 winners against Bakewell Town FC to start the season off with a bang and as it turns out, claim the only piece of silverware on offer this season.

The season unknowingly finished with a fine performance on the 16th March 2020 - an win away at table topping Sherwood Colliery Res 2-3 with goals from John Fones, Perry Marriott (1st of the season) & Joe Fox (1st for the club in his second game).

The biggest winning margin was a 7-0 thrashing of Mansfield Hosiery Mills - 23.8.19,
The biggest defeat inflicted was a home 0-4 demolition by Sherwood Colliery Res - 28.12.19.
2 red cards where handed out during the season - Dan Riley, and Perry Marriott the recipients, and notably 2 players also took part in the new 'Sin Bin' scheme, Dan Riley and Tom Ellis..
