Plumpton won 52-7

Plumpton travelled to Crawley this week, looking to make amends to their poor showing when hosting Crawley in a draw earlier in the season. Plumpton were greeted by a large crowd and a strong opposition. The conditions were almost perfect, except for a slight wind which caused some concern for the kickers on both teams.

Plumpton were first on the score board with a well worked try by Flavian Otieno, who used his significant pace to simply outrun his opposite man almost from the kick-off.

The formidable Plumpton forwards started the onslaught early which saw them win every one of their scrums and most of their lineout’s with ease. This powerful advantage was put to good use with some monstrous runs from both No8 Charlie Lewis and tighthead Craig Wells. More bolstering runs from centre Sam Gedrych and full-back Liam Dunkley kept the pressure mounting on the floundering Crawley side putting them on the back foot and resulting in yet more points for the visiting side.

The last thing Crawley needed at this point was the notorious second row Alex Aston using his bulk to brush aside any would be tacklers. After making two important catches from the restarts, Aston made sure the hosts knew that it was a massively misjudged tactic sending the ball in his direction as he swiftly dispatched his opposite number before running over the covering full back. Aston later scored an impressive try after taking a crash ball, swatting off Crawley’s openside flanker before outrunning the winger and full back, who was having a frightful afternoon.

The scoreboard kept climbing for the Plums due to some adept handling from the backs resulting in wingers Rhys Beale and Adam Turrell both scoring tries out side. Beale also had an excellent afternoon with the boot, converting from both touchlines despite the windy conditions. The Beale brothers managed to kick accurately and cause concern for the hosts in the 2nd half, as Crawly rarely managed to get outside their own half. The end score of 52-7 silenced the boisterous Crawley crowd as the witnessed a comprehensive loss.
