Plumpton hosted Brighton Medics at Plumpton College. Plumpton had most players available to choose from, needing to pick a mobile side to counteract the youth and pace of the younger university side. Plumpton gave Debuts to Matt Dingle (hooker), Dan Hird and two try scorers; David Thomas & David Sayce.
BSMS started the stronger, despite Plumpton putting on early forward pressure, BSMS exposed early defensive flaws to score and early converted try out wide. However this only galvanised the Mighty Plums who applied further physicality to the game, running straight lines at the smaller BSMS back line and starting to expose their midfield with direct running plays.
Pressure ensured Plumpton were able to gain a number of penalties in the opposition half and slowly claw back the score-line, through a penalty from Rhys Beale and then tries from Charlie Lewis and Liam Dunkley. As Plumpton rolled on their subs, debutants David Thomas & David Sayce both scored superb individual tries. Plumpton never looked like losing in the 2nd half, as BSMS were unable to threaten in the Plumpton defensive half.
Man-of –the-Match Debutant Dan Hird, who’s direct running caused havoc in the Medics midfield all game. This weekend Plumpton travel to St Francis, KO 3pm.
