Match report

Town kicked off the new MSFL season with an away trip down the A27 to Mile Oak, who were new to the league. Town fielded 4 players making their debuts for the club with several regulars missing for a variety of reasons.

For 30mins, Polegate completely dominated the game and stand-in goalkeeper Mavis had not touched the ball. Despite the dominance, there was little goal mouth action at either end, but Town manage to take the lead through Alex Frost with a fine lob. Jack Callingham, George Whitley and Frosty were linking up well and it was no surprise when Frosty scored a second. Mavis was called into action late in the half, saving a header just before half-time but this was a very one-sided first half which Town lead 2-0.

The second-half continued the same as the first 45mins and a corner taken by George Whitley was headed firmly home by defender Jacob Holder on the hour. This should have been game won, with Town playing some great football. Marcus Whiteman was unlucky to see his shot saved by the home keeper who kept Mile Oak in the game.

However, on 80mins Mile Oak gave themselves a lifeline. Mavis was unsighted by a 30 yard shot that flew into the top corner of the goal. There was no need to panic with Town still having a 2 goal lead, but everything suddenly went wrong and all the good play in the first hour wasn't coming off and Town conceded possession cheaply on several occassions. T ball was needlessly given away on the touchline when we should have cleared and it was in the back of our net before we could organise our defence. 3-2 game on. Mile Oak were now rampant and sensed another goal coming and it did with the final kick off the game.

A 3-3 draw and Mile Oak must be delighted with a courages fight-back and a point when the game seemed to be settled on the hour. Disappointing for Town to throw away the lead, but the first hour of football was encouraging with several new players and regulars to come back into the squad.
