Match report

Town hosted newly promoted West Hoathly at Polegate Rec this weekend. West Hoathly had made a good start to the season having won 2 and drawn 1 of the opening 3 games. They won the Mowatt Cup last season, so Town knew they would be in for a tough game and would need to be at their best.Town were able to name a strong squad again, but Marcus Whiteman pulled out injured in the warm up, so Alex Humphrey replaced him.The game was delayed by 30mins as the referee arrived late after having to get the replacement bus service from Lewes after the trains to Polegate were cancelled. Once the game got underway, Town started emphatically taking the lead after just 2mins when Jacob Holder powered home a header from a corner. However the game was soon level when Crawley equalised from the penalty spot after 5mins. Still Town don't know what the penalty was given for, not a single appeal by the away team, with only the referee seeing an infringment. However Town didn't let this set back effect them as within 5mins they had retaken the lead. Good build up play saw the ball arrive to Jack Callingham on the edge of the area and with the aid of a deflection the ball found its way into the corner of the goal. Town rode their luck as Crawley hit the bar on the counter attack, but half time arrived with Town leading 2-1 in a fairly even first half. The 2nd half started with Town on the front foot and they never eased up. They gave themselves a 2 goal cushion when Richard North rose like a salmon to head home. And it wasn't long after when he doubled his tally with a good strike to give Town a 4-1 lead. Town were able to make some changes with some players carrying a couple of knocks, but Town continued to play some good football. Town scored a further 2 goals to give them an emphatic win, with Richard North claiming his hat trick as he headed in from a Dom Crowhurst free kick, although there was a hint of offside, but the goal stood. Manager Mark Davis wrapped up the game with a late finish which puts him on 99 goals for the club.A good start to the season for the 1st team. With the league looking strong this season, Town will need to make sure they are at their best and have a strong squad to pick from each week.MoM: Richard North
