Match report

Town put in an impressive performance this afternoon, as they beat last season's league winners Copthorne 4-0 at Polegate WMRG.Town named a strong squad and welcomed back Alex Speirs to the squad.Town took an early lead when good play down the right hand side by Joe Morris saw his cross diverted into his own net by the centre back in his atempt to clear. And it didn't take long before Town doubled their lead. Joe Morris again caused the problems racing onto the through ball before being brought down by the Copthorne keeper. Morris dusted himself off to take the penalty and calmly slotted past the keeper. Copthorne slowly got back into the game, but Town defended well with their youthful defence with an average age of 21. But the half end with Town in control leading 2-0.Town were able to make early changes in the 2nd half to gives all 3 subs a good run out and with 30mins remaining, Alex Frost wrapped the game up with a good finished. Town should have extended their lead further with several good chances wasted, but full back Robbie Callingham put the icing on the cake with a 4th, his first for the club after intercepting the ball high up the pitch and smashing the ball past the keeper. However, Town finished the game with 10 men as Richard North suffered a late injury.Town played some of their best football and was good for the large crowd to watch. They now turn their attention to the cups, with their next 3 fixtures all in the cup, starting with Eastbourne Rangers in the Eastbourne Challenge Cup which they look to defend the Cup they won last season.
