Town’s 1st team lost 0-2 in the quarter final of the Mowatt Cup away at Charlwood. With Polegate Rec waterlogged the game was switched to Charlwood that morning. Town arrived at a pitch which considering the weather was in really good condition and one of the best clubhouses in the league. Town were missing 5 regulars but welcomed back Marcus Whiteman from injury. Charlwood were the quicker out the blocks with their No10 causing a lot of problems finding space inbetween Town’s midfield and defence. And it was No10 who opened the scoring as Town got caught with a long ball with the home side worked well seeing the No10 slot in from the edge of the area. Town gradually got back into the game and created chances of their own with David Harris going close at the back post, but Town trailed 0-1 at half time. The second half was even with Town creating several half chances but Charlwood looked dangerous on the counter. Town nearly equalised when the home keeper pulled off a great save to deny Marcus Whiteman down low to his left tipping the ball round the post. Town pushed men forward towards the end but Charlwood defended well. Town had to play the final 10 minutes with 10 men as Alex Frost turned his ankle forcing him off with the injury and Town had used all their subs. And with 5mins remaining Charlwood wrapped the game up on the counter. Town weren’t at their best but unlucky to lose a close game against a good Charlwood side likely to be in the Championship next season.
