Ponteland RFC take their first loss on the newly developed home soil.

Pont started well and immediately began pressurising Westoe. Young Barron wanted to make his first start the #MightyMaroon colours to count as he managed to get over the line. Unfortunately the call went against him as he was marginally in touch.

It took Westoe 12 minutes to get into Ponteland’s half and a failed run out in the 22 saw Pont penalised and Westoe went in for a score. 0-5. ( 13 min).

Pont continued to attack but savvy defending at the breakdown slowed the home team down. Pont were again penalised when running out and quick hands saw the visitors go over in the corner. 0-10. ( 28 min).

Pont eventually managed to take a quick penalty and a forty metre dash saw Gerrard under the posts converted by Reed. 7-10. ( 39 min).

Half Time
Ponteland 7 - 10 Westoe

From the kick off Pont won a scum against the head and after several pick and goes McGubbin stretched over to score his first try in the #MightyMaroon colours! A successful conversion by Reed brought Pont back into the game and into the lead. 12-10. (42 min).

The momentum would continue as Flanker, James Mould made an immediate break from the kick off. He looked to set away another try by was brought back for a marginal forward pass.

Whilst the crowd were looking to Ponteland to step up the pace and attacking threats, the more experienced visitors had other ideas.

Maintaining the ball well and preventing Pont from taking quick penalties allowed them to stamp their mark on the game . Scoring two tries in quick concession saw the visitors to extend their lead. 12-22 (65 min, 68 min).

A final penalty near the end saw the visors away with all of the points. 12-25. (78 min).
