With the aim to raise awareness and funding for both veterans trust ‘Forward Assist’ and the ‘Newcastle Rugby Foundation’, who lay close to the veteran's heart as they enrolled him onto the ‘Move Like a Pro’ initiative, helping John with his training, nutritional needs and well being.
Having served on board the HMS Coventry during the Falklands War when she was attacked by Argentinian aircraft with three 1,000 lb bombs ripping the ships side open. Within 20 minutes she had capsized and sank.
It wasn’t until 2015 when John was diagnosed with PTSD after nearly 30 years of silently suffering from mental health issues and having many referrals for different types of treatment.
Through your support and the power of sport this community project can provide charities the chance to improve social isolation/exclusion and help those in need of help.
Known as the ‘Anchorman’ around Ponteland RFC, John plays a key role in the behind the scenes operations of the club. Therefore, we ask you to join us for the last mile of John’s journey from 'The Quayside' Wetherspoons to the Cycle Hub where we will join John in crossing this finish.
