An uphill struggle

Following a minutes silence Pont took the field with a reshuffled back line with Josh Stoker on the wing, Scott Anderson at full back and Pete Newbigin drafted in due to a last minute cry off.
Horden started off brightly as Pont went into defence mode. A lost line out by the home side prevented a Pont attacking move as Horden kept up the pressure. Despite IRB guidelines scum ball never saw the centre of the scrum as Horden ran the ball wide and an excellent line by the full back registered the 1st try after 15 minutes. 0-7The Pont injury jinx struck again as Chris Freer was replaced by Joe Laser. Pont immediately swept down field and a simple penalty in front of the posts was missed. The game then swung back and forth until Horden again broke wide to score on 30 minutes 0-14. From the kick off Josh Stoker made a crunching tackle, forcing him off injured. A Pont scrum 30 metres from their line saw McGawleys pass intercepted for a canter in 0-21. The remainder of the half saw Pont pressuring with a Will Newbigin penalty making it 3-21 at half time.
The Pont routine of picking and driving saw them in the ascendency but their rhythm was again disrupted as prop Scandle came off with a knee injury. Another Newbigin penalty made it 6-21. A brilliant scything run by Anderson saw him cover 50 metres as only a desperate last ditch tackle prevented a score. Horden continued to push hard and a missed tackle breeched the defence 6-26. With Moller leading the way several promising breaks just failed to score but Horden showed how to do it as another penetrating run produced their final score 6-33. Pont saw out the game pushing forward as a yellow card to the visitors and several more penalties saw the home team fall short.
