Slade Throwaway Two Goal Lead

Polegate come from 2 behind to grab draw.

Conditions. Breezy. Cold. Wet. 7 degrees

Joining the long term absentees this week was Jacob Everett through a dodgy alarm clock, Tom Bendall who fell ill and 6 yard marksman Karl Boffey chillin’ in Amsterdam. Veenaye Munsarum took the lone striker role with Tom Ryan slipping into midfield and Jack Larkham starting at left back. Jamal Hanson made his long awaited return in an unfamiliar left-wing position. With a depleted bench Jon Stubbs & Matt Hornsby provided emergency cover after they had played for the reserve team.

Slade got off to the best possible start. From the whistle Portslade pushed on strong against a young Polegate team. In the 7th minute Portslade took the lead. David Goffin played the ball into Veenaye Munsarum on the half-way line. The Magician turned one defender before opening his legs. It looked the covering centre-half was going to clean up but Veenaye poked the ball past him at full speed. He bore down on goal now but decided to cut inside onto his weaker left-foot and unleashed a low 20 yard drive which flew in past ‘Keeper. Fantastic goal. 1-0

Portslade looked in control now and it was only a matter of time before the lead was extended. In the 23rd minute John Boddy crossed in a deep corner. A flying Prince Ryan threw a brave diving head at the ball. The goalkeeper couldn’t hold it and Veenaye Munsarum was there to thrash the ball into the roof of the net from 4 yards. 2-0

With Slade looking dominant it was a surprise when Polegate grabbed a goal back only a minute later. A free kick on Polegate’s right hand side was whipped in low. The ball eluded everyone apart from the Polegate number 11 who finished well at the back post. 2-1

Only 3 minutes after that and it was 2-2. Polegate got in down the Slade left-had side again and another ball was drilled across for the same Polegate player to finish with a half-volley. 2-2 and Portslade were shell shocked.

Man of the Match was Veenaye Munsarum who scored a wonder goal in the first half and was a consistent threat throughout.
