POTTERS BAR 86 all out in 24.1 overs lost to North Mymms 89 for 4 in 20.3 overs

A bowler friendly pitch and some poor batting saw Bar end their 2017 season on a low as they were well beaten by North Mymms who finished in third place.

Bar lost the toss and were asked to bat first and all bar the first 6 overs Bar were helpless against the ball whopping around corners, some decent seam bowliing. Steve Gale and James Scott got off to a flier with seven boundaries in the first 6 overs as Bar started positively. However the signs that the ball was doing all sorts as the ball was beating the bat more than the bat was hitting the ball.

It was Jigar Mehta who got the wicket of James Scott for 17 as he edged to slip. 32 for 1 and soon after Steve Gale played probably his third poor shot of a magnificent season as he chipped to coverfor 17 and Bar were 39 for 2. Bar then lost 3 more wickets for 2 runs in 10 balls as Bar were 41 for 5 as Jigar Mehta (5/38) was going through the boys like last nights curry.

Some maverick batting from Charlie Scott (20) and Thilan Walallawita (19) for Bar up to just 86 as Bar lost their innings within 145 balls, only slightly better than scoring it in a Twitter message.

Bar went through the motions early on and whilst they beat the bat a fair bit, the Hamzas, Ahmed and Quayum found the boundary on numerous occasions and were punching gloves on a run a ball 50 partnership. The introduction of spin twins, Luke Chapman and Thilan Walallawita brought some respectability to the result as both took two wickets and the hosts had lost 4 for 15 in 54 balls as the hosts made a hard work of getting over the line. However Neal Bamford got them over that line with three boundaries and Mymms deservedly claimed the points.

For Bar they finish 6th, an improvement on 2017 and are improving year in year out. Three defeats in the last 13 games shows the improvement and given the start and circumstances the club have again moved forward. Steve Gale the star with the bat with 823 runs at 58.79, rightly takes all the plaudits but was well supported by Patrick Scott 553 runs at 55.30, his best league return. The bowlers the wickets were shared around with Luke Chapman and Thilan Walallawita both taking 23 wickets and James Ilott 20.

To Mymms, Totteridge, Welwyn and Radlett best of luck in the playoffs, Hertford face Hoddesdon in the relegation playoff and it's goodbye to Luton Town & Indians who will be replaced by West Herts who make their first appearance in the newly formed Herts Premier League.
