Potters Bar 263 for 8 off 60 overs beat Radlett 133 all out in 42 overs

Potters Bar continued their fine run of form with a 130 run win over Radlett which now puts them right in the mix to win the Herts Premier League.

Winning the toss on a dry and dusty surface after yet another week of 90 degree heat, Steve Gale, deputising for James Scott won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first.

They got off to the customary decent start putting on 50 inside 13 overs but it was clear to see that pace off the ball was the way to go and let the dry and dusty pitch work its wonder. It was the opposition skipper who got the breakthrough, as Harrison Palmer (24) chipped to mid on where Sanghera took a head high catch.

With the pitch taking turn, it took a determined effort from Steve Gale and Kamran Younas to bat through to lunch and get Bar a decent platform. Steve Gale completed his fourth 50 of the season in 84 balls and soon after Kamran Younas completed his second fifty of the season as Bar went into lunch on an imposing 153 for 1 from 37 overs and a score of 240 plus would be a tall order to chase.

However after lunch Bar lost wickets at regular stages as Steve Gale was well snatched at slip for 67, Thilan Walallawita chipped to mid wicket for just 4 and Zawar Hussain was leg before for 7 as Bar were reduced to 188 for 5. Kamran Younas was still batting nicely but he was run out for 84 after attempting a tight second run as Bar were 196 for 6 with time starting to run out.

However there was some fine late order batting and Ben Taylor 24*, Jigar Mehta 16 and Callum Baylis 14* got Bar upto 263 for 8 from their 60 overs. For Radlett ex-Bar man Adil Zareef was by far the oppositions best bowler finishing with 3 for 64 from 20 overs.

So 264 to win in 55 overs and it was the seam of Jigar Mehta who did the damage. He pinned Chris Arul leg before for 0 and then the prized wicket of Kabir Toor who snicked behind second ball for 4, where Callum Baylis held a fine low catch. Better was to follow as Fraser Crawford slashed behind where Steve Gale took a stunning slip catch and Radlett were 22 for 3 and their hopes of winning was all but done.

Joe Cooke batted nicely but he was clean bowled for 22 by Teddy Duke and tea was taken with the hosts 74 for 4 batting more for a losing draw then chasing the win.

It took two balls after tea to see the end of Tom Jenkins, who was well stumped by Callum Baylis off the bowling of Thilan Walallawita for 14. Adil Zareef came in and batted positively but it was evergreen Paul McGee who found the edge of Josh de Caires' bat for 11 and was taken at slip for a patient 11. He then bowled Adil Zareef fior a run a ball 22 and at 101 for 7 it was a case of when rather than if Bar would seal the 30 points.

Luke Chapman had Goenka leg before for 30, Jigar Mehta the same dismissal for Mulla and the final nail in the coffin was Luke Chapman who bowled Randeep Sanghera for 1 and the visitors were bowled out for 133, handing Bar their sixth league win of the season and are now just 3 points off top spot.

The bowling figures were dominated by Jigar Mehta 4-27 but was assisted by Paul McGee 2 for 18, Luke Chapman 2 for 32 and a wicket a piece for Thilan Walallawita and Teddy Duke puts a good distance between the top four and the rest.

Next weekend sees Bar travel to Bishop's Stortford for the last 'timed game' of the season when they will be boosted by the return of the three Scott brothers who missed today's game due to a family wedding.
