West Herts 144 all out in 43.5 overs Potters Bar 145 for 2 in 26.1 overs Potters Bar won by 8 wkts

Bar completed 18 league matches unbeaten the equivalent to a complete season with a dominant display at West Herts as they were the only game to go ahead as unlike the Watford area, the rest of the county was ankle deep in puddles.

A 20-minute delay for the mist and 'light drizzle' to clear both teams were who were keen to play saw Steve Gale win the toss and insert the hosts on a rock hard pitch and a ground that looked in fine fettle.

Bar were to be all over the hosts as new ball partnership Teddy Duke and Jigar Mehta tore in to them. Alistair Lewis was first to go as he was bowled by Teddy Duke for 2 and when Joe Warren snicked behind, he gave an easy catch to keeper Ashane Wijesuriya the hosts were 16 for 2. Two balls later Ashane Wijesuriya took a fine diving one handed catch to give Teddy Duke his third scalp of the afternoon.

16 for 3 was bad enough for the hosts and it was to get worse as Jigar Mehta joined the wicket taking column as he had Arjun Patel comfortably caught at second slip for 10 and he then bowled Mane for 0 to leave the hosts 20 for 5 and Bar cock-a-hoop.

To the hosts credit, Dhaliwal batted nicely and he shared partnerships with Tom Stock of 32 and 43 with Harry Kendal as they crabbed up towards the 100 mark. However wickets continued to tumble in the West Herts murk and although Dhaliwal completed his 50 in 71 balls both he and Harry Kendal went in consecutive deliveries to leave West Herts 8 for 95.

Bill Gage came in and put bat to ball and he enjoyed a 44-run partnership with skipper Ian Gurney but Steve Gale accounted for both in the latter stages of the innings and West Herts were dismissed for 144.

It was now a race against time for Bar to get to the 20 over mark in their innings to constitute an innings but in the truth, the weather would have been their only worry. They went at the home sides attack from ball one and Pat Scott carried on his fine form as both he and Ashane Wijesuriya played nicely in front of a large gathering crowd, none of which were dressed for the August date, more akin to mid-October.

They put on 56 in 63 balls before Ashane Wijesuriya top edged to cover where Simon Walker held a good running catch. This brought Reece Hussain to the crease and he and Pat Scott just punished anything in their zone. They negotiated the innings up to the 20-over cut off and with Bar 43 runs ahead on DLS, needing just 47 in 25 overs meant they were as good as home.

The pair were punching gloves on a 50-partnership in 63 balls and it was Pat Scott who reached 50 in 69 balls as he hit an Ian Gurney over for 16 before he was bowled trying to reverse sweep to hit the winning boundary.

Reece Hussain was sat 40 not out as Charlie Scott struck the winning runs as Bar won by 8 wickets with 113 balls to spare as they gained a fortunate march on those now below Bar. However to the home sides credit as well as the Umpires, it didn't rain from the start throughout and whilst you wouldn't be hanging your washing out in it, the weather and ground was perfectly fine to play the game in.

Bar have now completed a sequence of 18 matches unbeaten, equates to a whole season, 14 wins, 2 draws, a tie and a postponement. An amazing achievement for club who seems to get stronger as a group game by game.

Next week Bar host Totteridge Millhillians.
