North Enfield 1st X1 161-7 in 53 overs Beat Potters Bar 2nd X1 61 all out

Potters Bar 2nd X1 put in what can only be described as a frankly pathetic display in losing by exactly 100 runs to previously winless North Enfield 1st X1 on Saturday.

Skipper Dave Pett won the toss and inserted the home side on a pitch understandably very wet form the previous week’s rainfall.

Whilst conditions may not have been favourable to allow the bowlers the opportunity to run in properly, there can be no excuses whatsoever for the hideous performance in the field that saw no less than 7 catches, some very easy, go down and allow the hosts to post 161-7 from 53 overs.

Credit must go to the home side batsman who despite appearing to be somewhat limited in their attacking shots, set the goal of batting their 53 over allocation and take whatever runs came their way in the process.

Chris Boyce was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-28 from 13 overs whilst Paul McGee also chipped in with 2-21 from an 8 over spell that on reflection may well have been a longer spell of bowling.

So 162 to win from 47 overs was the target and in truth things could not have gone any worse for the visiting batsman than the way the innings subsided from the word go.

After just 8 overs the game appeared to be over for the visitors with the score reading 12-4 and in truth it didn’t really get any better from there onwards as the home side’s off spinner bowled beautifully, appearing to leave the batsman struggling to come up with any sort of game plan to combat the strangle hold.

The first six wickets to fall all went to the off spinner and when the left arm spinner took his first wicket, to stop the apparent possibibility of a ten wicket haul, the score had reached 31-7 in just 16 overs.

You can hardly say the tail wagged however there was a slight hint of resistance from Dave Pett who was the last man out having top scored with 23, whilst Mike Palmer was the only other batsman to reach double figures, as the visitors collapsed to a paltry 61 all out.

Next week the side play host to second placed Baldock with a much improved all round performance being very much the order of the day.
