Captain Luke Owers won the toss and decided to bowl on a typical village green pitch. Bar 2s were keen to get the season underway with a win and in truth started the first 25 overs very well. Potters Bar’s opening bowlers, Greg Hodge and Chris Boyce both bowled well throughout the game.
Greg Hodge finished his 10 overs for just 30 runs, claiming 2 wickets. Boyce finished his 10 overs removing two Datchworth batsmen. At the halfway stage Datchworth 1s were 118 – 5 and Potters Bar were looking to finish their innings for under 150. However, this wasn’t the case as D. Barlett, Datchworths number 7, came in and smashed a quick 52 to enable to host to finish with 222.
With 222 to chase, Potters Bar seemed eager to chase down the target set by the hosts. However, old veteran, Michael Palmer hit the ball to point for an easy catch for 1. John Lewis soon followed after another catch was taken. 23-2 and Bar chances of their first league win was slipping slowly. David Breeze and Mark Taylor, added 22 and 20 runs to the score but both fell cheaply. The rest of Bar’s middle order fell for under 25 runs.
On the plus, Hodge, Boyce and Reddy all looked good bowling and will be asked to bowl the majority of the overs this season. David Breeze played some lovely shots at the start of the innings. Bar look forward to playing a strong Letchwoth 2s team at Home on Saturday 16th May 2015 at 1pm.
