Skipper Dave Pett lost the toss and the hosts asked the vistors to bat first on a wicket understandably wet from the recent rainfall.
Following successive promotion campaigns throughout the past 3 years, Bar’s 3rd X1 now find themselves competing within Saracens Herts Division 6B.
A total of 253-9 from their 50 over allocation was rightly deemed as competitive at the half way stage.
Debutant Tom Kerr made a well crafted 40 whilst the star performer was Dave ‘big fish’ Rock who scored an excellent 68 runs .
There were very useful late order cameo’s from Tommy Rowlands 32 and Dave Fennell 21 not out.
Dave Fennell then made the breakthrough with the ball taking the first wicket of the season and when the home side had been reduced to 60-5 Bar appeared to very much be in the box seat.
However a fine innings from the hosts number 3 batsman Allum meant the game was not over as a contest whilst he was striking the ball cleanly to all parts.
It wasn’t until Allum was stumped in the penultimate over that the taste of victory came reality as the home side ended on 227-8.
There were 3 wickets apiece to Doc Sharma and debutant Samith Pramarathia and the team will look to build on their fine start when they hosts Radlett 4th X1 next Saturday.
