Good win for 3rds

Tewin 1st XI – 140 all out (52.2 overs)

Potters Bar 3rd XI – 141-2 (26.4 overs)

Potters Bar opened the season with a crushing 8 wicket win at the Walk on Saturday. Home skipper Ben Scarisbrick won the toss on a beautiful day and chose to stick Tewin in to bat. This decision paid immediate dividends as evergreen Michael John sent Tewin’s opening batsman Stavely-Smith’s middle stump cart wheeling out of the ground in the 5th over. This led to an early procession of wickets as John, who looked unplayable on the day, and youngster Alex Whitehouse tore through Tewins middle order to leave the visitors tottering on 56 for 6.
A mini fightback was raised by Tewin’s opening batman Taylor and number 8 Heather who hung around for a good hour to frustrate Bar. However this partnership was broken when youngster Dan Pett bowled Heather for 17. It was then left to Dan Brown, who atoned for dropping Taylor in the 4th over by bowling 15 miserly overs for only 23 runs, and Adam Titmuss to clean up Tewin’s tail. Michael John was the pick of the Bar bowlers with a superb 6 for 34. For Tewin, the best performance was a brave 55 not out from opener John Taylor who carried his bat through the visitors innings.
Chasing on 141 to win, Bar set off in confident fashion with evergreen Rob Daley getting off the mark with 3 boundaries in an over. After a nervy first few overs, Adam Titmuss found his feet and started playing some beautiful shots all around the ground, hitting 3 consecutives balls for four as Bar started to ease their way to the victory target. Daley eventually perished for 40, but Titmuss pushed onto a well deserved 50 and despite the loss of Matt Evans for 13, Bar strolled to a comfortable victory with more than 20 overs to spare. Titmuss finished with a fine 65 not out and John Lewis hit a cameo 15 not out to see Bar home.
Next week sees Potters Bar travel to Broxbourne.
