Following last seasons promotion the 4’s were confident with most players retained and after captain Ellis won the toss and choose to field confidence was high. Ellis and Brissenden opened the bowling and working in tandem superbly with Datchworth unable to get the ball off the square.
After a few near misses Ellis got the breakthrough with a leading edge with Tom getting a wicket next over with a catch from Chandra. Another wicket soon followed with an LBW and after 12 overs the oppo were 13-3. Sanjeev and Chandra came on to bowl and both got wickets in there first overs and at drinks after 20 the game was ours for the taking with Datchworth only on 25-5. To their credit there next 2 batsmen did exactly the right things and pushed the ball around while running well and got the score past 100 without looking very troubled.
Eventually both were removed with young Lewis Harris taking his first Potters Bar wicket and Ellis and Brissenden came back on to clean up the tail but our target of 140 should of been at least 50 less. After tea we came out to bat and unfortunately our batting was to be our undoing. Our top 5 were all out bowled on a slow and low wicket with only Amit and Karl making contributions and we had a spell of 45 balls being bowled with only one scoring shot played. We continued to lose wickets and Eventually finished on 100-9.
This was a tough loss to take but we will go again next week and hopefully show our true colours.
Karl Haynes 29
