The 4’s first away game of the season saw us travel to the lovely Mill Hill Village and batting first we knew we had to buckle down and put a score on the board after last weeks capitulation.
We got off to the worst possible start as our 2 regular openers Amit and Chandra lasted just 3 balls between them and with vice captain Adam Bolt out soon after, we were bang in trouble at 4-3.
Ajay making his first start of the season dug in and when he was joined by Sharad they played very well together and got us back on an even keel with us reaching 40-3 off 15 overs.
Ajay was looking in excellent touch but fell to a good catch for 22 which brought Ram to the middle and he and Sharad saw us to drinks at 59-4. After drinks out old demons returned with 4 of the next 5 in getting ducks and we were bowled out inside 32 overs.
Ajay and Ram batted well and Sharad played his best innings for Potters Bar showing the rest how it’s done to be not out on 21
We decided to get 10 overs in before tea with Tim and Gowri opening up and to be fair it was perhaps one of the best opening spells I’ve seen in the 4’s particularly from Gowri. His initial 5 overs were hostile and fast with him beating and hitting the batsmen numerous times. Captain Ellis at the other end was as frugal as ever only going for 1 run from his 5 overs. After an excellent tea, we made some bowling changes and this brought about the first wicket with Sanjeev getting an lbw decision and Adam Bolt 2 wickets with 1 an excellent catch from Chandra.
The oppo inevitably got over the line and we have lost our first 2 games of the season now. With our bowling attack I doubt if teams will score more than 140 against us so we need to knuckle down and bat our overs. With players returning next week hopefully competition for places will put us back on track
