Potters Bar 135 all out beat Hertingfordbury 110 all out

With availability poor this week and only 4 bowlers available the odds were against us against a good Hertingfordbury side who had scored 240+ in consecutive weeks including 1 of those games with only 8 men!

After losing the toss and being inserted we started well with our openers Chandra and Amit playing sensibly and getting us to 34-0 off the first 10. After losing Chandra for 23 we had a mini collapse as Amit was run out for 16 and Stuart was lbw for 2 and we had failed to capitalise on a good start losing 3 wickets in 14 balls. Ajay and Gary were now at the crease and rebuilt nicely to 74-3 off 20 but another poor run out sent Gary packing.

Ram was next in and played positively scoring a quick fire 14 but eventually found the man in the deep and with sharad soon out only scoring 1 and Ajay finally removed for 18 we were in danger of not batting our overs for the 4th time this season. at 95-7 in the 29th over it didn’t look great but Sanjay and Tim batted smartly and did the basics right and we scrambled to 135 all out in the 38th over with Tim 17 not out.

At tea we felt that the score was below par but defendable but with only 4 bowlers we had to get early wickets and the opening bowling duo of Tim and Gowri set about the batsmen with vigour. Gowri in particular bowled excellent and took 2 wickets; a fantastic catch by Gary and with Tim getting 1 at the other end after 14 overs Hertingfordbury were 40-3. With their captain now at the crease with there opener the game started to slip away from us as they both accrued runs patiently taking advantage of the fact they were both dropped without scoring!!

At 90-3 after 24 the game appeared lost but we never gave up and with Gowri back on to finish his spell he bowled there opener and with their captain soon snicking off to a good Chandra ball we were back in it and our tails up. Sanjay was brought in to the attack and bowled magnificently to take 3 wickets in a 23 ball burst without giving away a run and with Chandra taking 2 from the other end the game was finally up with Bar victorious by 25 runs

3 on the bounce now puts us in the mix in our division with the bottom 4 in the league our next 4 fixtures. Our bowling is the finest in the league (thats a big claim Editor) and if our batting starts clicking, back to back promotions is a big possibility

Chandra 23
Ajay 18

Gowri 3 for 14
Chandra 3 for 19
Sanjay 3 for 20
