FOURS COME UP SHORT IN MILL HILL

After last weeks heavy loss the 4’s looked to get back to winning ways against 2nd placed Mill Hill Village and after winning the toss we chose to field and looked to make early inroads.

Jack and Tim took the new ball and got some movement on a slow deck but the 2 opposition openers were positive early on and looked to score at every opportunity. Eventually we got our first wicket through an lbw and when Chandra came in to the attack 3 more wickets fell but our catching was below par with 5 chances going down and at drinks the game was 50/50 with the oppo 82-4.

After drinks we continued to press with Sanjay being miserly with the ball and picking up 2 wickets with Ajay bowling well from the other end but due to some late hitting we were set a gettable target of 157. Our fielding wasn’t great but one highlight was a great catch in the deep by Gary.

After tea Chandra and Sanj opened but once again a lack of discipline put us in trouble as both fell to bad shots and when Ajay and Sanjay soon followed in similar fashion we were bang in trouble at 19-4. Gary and Lewis were next in and did a great job of rebuilding playing sensibly and got us to drinks without losing anymore wickets.

We still only needed about 5 an over and were in the game with 16 to go when Lewis fell for a well made 24. Tim joined Gary at the crease and put together a great partnership with great running and got us past 100 but when he nicked off for 33 and when Jack and Alex followed soon after we still needed 35 to win 8 down with overs running out. Jack came in and looked in great touch with some lovely boundary’s and he and Tim got us close but they both perished trying to get us over the line and we finished 19 runs short.

Our middle and lower order did a fantastic job today but we need to improve as a team for next week to get back in the winners enclosure
