After the deluge the night before the on song 4's were happy to get to the school to find a decent wicket to continue our recent good run of form.
After losing the toss we were put in to bat and made steady progress with Sanj Thangiah and Andy Silvey opening the batting and working the ball around well to pick up the 1's and 2's. Silvey had settled nicely after opening for the first time this season and soon despatched a couple of lovely boundaries including a 1 bounce 4 over the bowlers head before he chased a wide one and nicked off.
Jack Phillips was next man in and started well but soon lost his partner Thangiah who holed out to cover and after a good start we were 50-2 off 16 overs. Young colt Eyshan was next in and played some lovely textbook shots and he and Phillips got the scoreboard moving along nicely and we were soon on 100 runs before the young colt was unluckily out with an inside edge onto his stumps. Luke Owers playing with the same amount of working fingers as a Simpson character, was next in and flayed the ball around nicely but was clearly desperate for a hot beverage as he appeared to leave a straight one and got castled. Phillips was soon celebrating his 2nd 50 of the season and with captains order to get a move on the tail gave it some bosh before we declared after 45 overs on 180-9 with Phillips getting 65 and a nice cameo by Sean Lovell.
After tea opening bowlers Ellis and Barnes took the new ball but were surprised by the aggressive batting as their opening overs went for 12 and 8 respectively! This only steeled us into action as Barnes took the first wicket next over lbw and Ellis bowled full and straight to remove the top order all clean bowled for figures of 5-36. Bowling changes were made and the youth of Lovell and Eyshan were in and were both in amongst it early as Lovell took 2 wickets and Eyshan bowled a great spell only conceding 3 runs from 4 overs. The end was nigh and when 2 of our colts combined to take the last wicket with Max Hall bowling and Lovell taking a nice catch at point the 4's were celebrating an 85 run win. Great performance today with the colts doing a fantastic job. The future is bright for PBCC...
